Allen Goss Jr. was born on May 6, 1951, in Benefield, Georgia. He was the first son and second child of five born to the union of the late Allen Goss and to his mother, Geneva Goss. He grew up in Greensboro, Georgia on Horton Lane. Allen enjoyed fishing and swimming. Allen's early childhood nickname was “To To”.
Allen received his primary education in the Greene County School System, and the first two years of his secondary education in the Greene County School system. He moved to Atlanta and finished his final two years at Murphy High School where he graduated in 1969. His math teacher was very impressed with Allen’s math knowledge and skills, and he was tested and found to be like that of a math genius. Allen loved working with his hands. You could always find him ready to fix something broken or to build something. He later pursued a career as a carpenter.
On Sunday, April 20, 1997, his life was forever changed after falling from a two-story building onto a cement driveway that caused a traumatic brain injury. He was rushed to Grady Hospital where they performed emergency surgery. Days after surgery, Allen was given two weeks to live and if he survived, he would live in a vegetative state. However, God had a different plan, because He was not done with him yet. While on his sick bed and during the process of recovery, Allen was read bible verses, scriptures and stories about Jesus. One day during a home bible study, Allen prayed the Sinners Prayer and during a Wednesday night church service, Allen walked up to the altar to pray and received prayer.
On Friday, January 11, 2025, Allen Goss, 73, transitioned peacefully from his earthly life to his eternal life.
Allen was proceeded in death by his father, Allen Goss, and brother, Melvin Goss. His memories will be cherished by his mother, Geneva Goss, and his sister: Marie Smith of Charlotte, NC, Evelyn Campbell in Powder Springs, GA, Doris Jackson in Marietta, GA, Cora Goss in Eatonton, GA, Vicky Goss in Greensboro, GA, Valisha in Columbus, OH; two Aunts, Warlene Surratt and Wanda Huff of Alexandria, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Memorial/Homecoming Celebration Services will be held in Allen’s honor on Thursday, January 30, 2025, at 11am at Southern Cremations & Funeral Home at Cheatham Hill, 1861 Dallas Highway SW, Marietta, Ga. A Reception will follow at 12 pm.
