Andrew Byrd Campbell Jr.

October 8, 1944 ~ August 3, 2023

Andrew Byrd Campbell Jr. passed away on August 3, 2023 in Smyrna, Georgia. Andy was born in Radford, VA on November 8, 1944. He often spoke fondly of his days growing up in St. Jude Catholic Church. He graduated from Radford High School in 1962 and then attended Virginia Tech where he played on the golf team and majored in business, graduating in 1966. Andy then was commissioned as an officer in the United States Army. After the Army, Andy returned to Virginia where he continued his studies obtaining a graduate degree from Radford College (now Radford University) and a graduate degree in Health Care Administration from Medical College of Virginia in 1974. Andy served in hospital administration in Virginia Beach, Atlanta, and Gulfport, MS before becoming an Entre Computer business franchisee with stores in Gulfport, MS, Mobile, AL, and Pensacola, FL. Andy was predeceased by his parents, Andrew Byrd Campbell Sr. and Alice Teresa Dill Campbell, along with his uncle and aunt, Harold and Elizabeth Dill. Andy leaves behind his sister Sue Martin and brother-in-law Buddy Martin; nephew Matt Martin and his wife Jenny Martin; niece Meg Martin and her husband Gabe Corey; great nieces Emily and Kate Martin; great nephew James Corey and great niece Alice Corey. Andy had many friends over the years primarily in Long Beach, MS where he lived for 25+ years, and in the Atlanta, GA area where he lived from 2006 until his death in early August. Some of Andy’s friends had remained close to him since his days serving in the Army, including Charlie Graham and Sam Brownlee – all three were stationed together at Fort Rucker, AL (renamed Fort Novosel). Many describe Andy as someone who loved to have fun, laugh, and tease his friends; a heart for service who would take his friends to their doctor appointments and check on their well-being; someone who never forgot a birthday or anniversary; a thorough researcher of medicine, finances, and politics; very neat and meticulous in his record keeping; someone who loved a good conversation; and most importantly, someone who was loved by his family and friends. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Andy came over a few times a week to share bourbon when my son would bring over a rare find. I still can’t believe he’s gone. I’m just happy he is out of pain.

  2. Meg and Matt,
I am extremely sorry for your loss! I know how much your uncle meant to you! Praying your good memories will lift you as time goes forward!

    Beverly Wallace Wills

  3. Andy and I were across-the-street neighbors in Smyrna. We shared a glass of wine now and then and also liked sharing about Radford, Virginia, and Radford University as my sister and her husband were professors there.
I loved watching him examine his yard and all its glory as he meandered around as master of his space.

  4. I am in shock.
Andy was such a wonderful person. I knew him for over 30 years. I worked for him at Entre’ Computer and he was like a father figure. I knew something was wrong when I didn’t receive a Birthday card from him. He ALWAYS remembered.
    Rest in peace Andy.
    You will be forever missed.
    Sherry Kubala

  5. Andy was the administrator at a hospital where I worked in Virginia. I was the evening supervisor and often we would have dinner together. He was a really nice guy with a good sense of humor. We lost touch after he moved to Georgia and I moved to Germany. I decided to look him up yesterday and I am sorry we can’t renew a friendship. Rest in peace Andy you haven’t been forgotten
