Fairburn Southern Cremations & Funerals
Audrey Jean Fulks Exline Brown April 12, 1933 - February 11, 2022
Audrey was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Her mother, Julia, died soon after and her father
Cecil was left to care and provide for his infant daughter. Cecil’s sister Clara arrived to help and
the families soon decided it would be best for Clara and her husband John Exline to adopt her.
Audrey moved to south Texas with her new parents and older cousin/brother Larry. She learned
to play piano and flute and was in the high school band. After graduation, she went to business
college in San Antonio where she earned an associate degree.
In 1951 she met, dated and married Sammie T Brown. Daughter Darlene was born the following
October, and sons Kenneth and Douglas came along in January 1958 and December 1960.
The Air Force was Sammie’s career, so the family moved from time to time. Over the years
“home” was in San Antonio, Crawford and Waco, Texas; the Azores, Portugal; and Rantoul AFB
in Illinois, settling back in San Antonio when Sammie retired.
While her children were young, Audrey was a homemaker and her children were always her
first priority! She played piano and organ for her church and sang in the choir. She loved to
sew, garden, travel and read, and spent many hours in Bible study, researching scriptures and
learning. As the kids got older, she resumed secretarial work and eventually retired from Civil
Service after working for various military organizations including the Electronic Security
Command and the Surgeon General’s office. She moved east to be near her daughter’s family
in Georgia for several years, then to St Croix, USVI, to live with her older son, Kenneth. Ken
died in 2017, and later that year Audrey moved back to Georgia, where she settled in
Columbus.
Remembering her with love are her children Darlene (and Mike) Henley and Douglas Brown;
grandchildren Brandy (and Justin) Huot, Austin (and Jamie) Brown, Brittany (and Warren)
Woolfolk, Justin Brown, Dillon (and Brittany) Brown, and Maura (and Ryan) Doebbler; greatgrandchildren
Sabrina Mosto, Henley Woolfolk, Owen Brown and Emmit Brown, and many
friends. Knowing how much Audrey loved the ocean and being at the beach, the family will privately
scatter her ashes on the Texas coast and St Croix.
