Barbara Ann Hinton

November 17, 1937 ~ March 15, 2023

Barbara Ann Hinton, age 85 passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday 3/15/2023 in her Mableton, Ga home, where she resided for 65 years. Barbara is preceded in death by her husband Lewis Ray Hinton, parents Claude & Gertrude Barden, sister Beverly Jean Hall and one grandchild, Matthew Ray Driver. Barbara was born on November 17, 1937, in Hamlet, North Carolina. She grew up mostly in the Bolton & Howell Mill areas of Atlanta, Ga and attended West Fulton and O’Keefe High Schools where she was captain of the Pep Squad. She was also an accomplished accordion player. She played for WSB’s tv talent show as the opening act before she started her family. Barbara drove a school bus for Cobb County schools from 1980 -2003. She was given the most difficult routes with the most difficult students only to win them over and prove to the administration that these kids simply needed a mentor and friend; someone to treat them with respect and dignity. Some of her students are still in contact with Barbara on Facebook after all these years. After retirement, Mom cruised with her late husband and daughter Lisa traveling to many wonderful places. She spent time playing the penny slots in Mississippi, hung out at the Freeman Poole Senior Center and played bingo most Saturday nights at the American Legion Post 264 in Mableton. Mom received many volunteer awards from the senior center and loved to help volunteering with various events there. She also loved spending time with her family and grandchildren. Barbara is survived by her 3 daughters: Lisa Jean Hinton - Mableton GA, Vicky Ann (and Kevin) Pruitt - Powder Springs, GA and Rene (and Tim) Rutledge - Smyrna GA. She is also survived by 4 grandchildren: Phillip (and Terrah) Driver – Sugar Hill, GA, Jill (and Andrew) Wright – Sandy Springs, Ga, Matthew Loriss - Powder Springs, and Valerie Loriss - Marietta, GA. She is also survived by four great grandsons, Rhett & Reece Driver and Patrick & Liam Meahl.
