Betty Jean Batson

I learned more about my mother this year then I probably knew my whole life. When your a kid your moms just your mom ya know? Shes there to listen to all your problems and fears. She takes care of you. Its easy to forget that she had a whole life before you even existed. She would talk for hours to friends and colleagues just telling stories. I would easedrop on those conversations and just laugh and laugh. I learned things I never knew but the core of who she was I knew all along. She was amazing. She was funny and silly. She was intelligent and brave. She was kind and generous. She was my mom. I love her always and forever.

Oh, how I loved shopping for you. I always wanted you in the best and latest stuff. When the ladies would see me walk into the store, they knew me by name for always buying your stuff. They all thought I was such a great brother, but I enjoyed buying them more than you did showing them off. I miss you so much, I need you to talk too. I’m a mess without you telling me what to do and how to act. I feel all alone without you and Barbara. It’s been us for so long. I’m lost without your love and tenderness. You were the best big sister anyone could ask for. Thank you for a lifetime of caring and love. Dale

I was Maw Maw’s firstborn grandson, and the impact this incredible woman has had on my life is monumental, just the knowledge she was there if I ever did need her was very comforting to me as I grew up.

I have memories from the past 20 years, but one stands out above the rest for me. It was her birthday in 2021, and she came up to our previous house to celebrate with us, and we had pulled out all the stops to make sure she had a great time.

We made crab cakes and grilled a bunch of food, and she was so surprised when I pulled out her present from a soda box awhile after the rest had been given, the first real present I had ever given in my adult life, a set of sapphire earrings.

Her expression lit up and for me, that made it a memory that stuck with me every time I saw her from then on. We’ll miss you Maw Maw!

When I met Betty years ago on a property off Delk Rd. I knew she was someone that works hard and is loyal to a fault. These were some of the first impressions I had of her and then of course as I got to know her and we worked together I realized what a special person she is and knew that someday I would be able to call her friend as well as coworker. Then as I moved on to another company I asked her to go with me and she did, and she did very well at that company as I knew she would. I have always been proud of her wherever she was at and whatever she was doing because I knew that she was giving it the best that she had and she was smart enough to make that work for her. Betty was one of the most giving and selfless people that I have ever known. We always talked about how we would do anything for our kids and that we always put them first and she definitely was that way. We didn’t talk on a regular basis but we’d go two or three weeks and then catch up with each other just to make sure we were each doing okay and sometimes text in between and just knowing that I can’t do that anymore is heartbreaking. So now I just talk to her. I tell her how much I miss her. She will truly be missed by all that knew her.

RIP Ms. Betty, you will always be remembered. Thank you for being a mentor to me in my career. Above all, thank you for having my back when I needed it the most. You were always there. Thank you for all the memories.

Betty, you have somehow always managed to greet everyone with a smile and your contagious laugh. I loved how you would always call me “Darling or Sweetheart” when we would call each other. The world was a much better place with you in it, you will be terribly missed.

Betty you were one of the first smiling faces I saw on January 19, 2015. Everyday since that day you wore that same smile and I looked forward to seeing that smile for the past 5 years (until COVID took us out). May you rest in peace and I pray you are with your soul mate!!

It was an honor to have known such a unique and remarkable individual as Betty, whose intelligence, thoughtfulness, optimism, creativity, and spirited nature left a lasting impact on all those who crossed her path. Her kind heart allowed her to fearlessly address issues in the professional world that many would not dare to confront. The unwavering presence of her family in spirit provided constant support throughout her career. To have been a part of Betty’s life was truly a privilege – she will be greatly missed by many.

My memories of the beautiful and huge heart of my friend Mrs. Betty were of kindness and caring. She was the one to interview me for HavenBrook. She encouraged me to grow not only work wise but personally. She leant an ear to listen when times were tough and I lost my mom. We shared a lot of the same experiences in life and I will always be grateful to her. I will miss her greatly.
