Darlene Marie Labove was born May 13th, 1962, in Abilene, Texas to the late Mr. Leo and Lois Wilson. Darlene attended St. Carlos Elementary School and Sequoia High School in East Palo Alto, California. Upon her graduation, Darlene’s passion for beauty led her to attend Cosmetology School in East Palo Alto, California. Darlene continued to reach for higher learning by enrolling in computer classes preparing in the field of IT and its technology. She developed the love for working with computers and their interchangeable parts, that it provided her with the abilities to build her own computer. She completed several courses and classes in this area, which led her to seek employment at Moffett Federal Field in Santa Clara County, California. While there she served as computer support specialist assisting the Naval operation and their Research Center Operations.
Darlene met Romay Dickens Sr. in Oakland, California. They were united in Holy Matrimony shortly thereafter and to this union Romay Dickens Jr. was born. Together, they enjoyed marital bliss until Romay Dickens Sr. was called home by the angels.
In 1989, Darlene and her son Romay moved to Marietta, Georgia. Shortly upon getting settled she moved to Covington, Georgia where she was hired as a Program Support Assistant at the Veterans Atlanta Medical Center serving the veterans and their families. Darlene performed a number of duties in the medical clinics throughout the Veterans Hospital. She was dedicated to serving the veterans and their families with any assistance that was needed. Darlene would even provide assistance to veterans that were unable to walk or would push them around the hospital in a wheelchair to their appointments. In 2014, Darlene officially retired from the Veterans Atlanta Medical Center.
Darlene was a loving mother to her son Romay, he was her strength and every reason for living. She expressed this love for him daily before she was called home to glory. Darlene was a lover of the Caribbean island's lifestyle with their food and reggae music, she also enjoyed cooking. One of her favorites to prepare was seafood gumbo, her other favorite meal was shrimp fried rice with egg rolls. She loved visiting Jamaica, no matter how many times she visited – she never grew tired or bored.The memory of Darlene Marie Labove will forever live in the hearts of her son; Romay Dickens Jr. of Wellington, Kentucky, daughter-in-law; Jennifer Dickens; her sister Jackqueline McGee of Ellenwood, Georgia, brother-in-law Sterling McGee of Ellenwood, Georgia; Johnnie McCullor of Fayetteville, Georgia; one granddaughter; Katilaya Dickens; niece Kamesha Mahaffey and great niece Faith Mahaffey; two nephews; D’Andre Charlot and Jeremy Mahaffey. She also leaves a host of cousins, other relatives, and friends.








She was a very special person who worked at the VA. I pray for her family. Kristi Tornabene
