Eula Bowens

Our dearest Eula Mae Adkinson-Bowens was born on May 8th,1934. Eula was raised in in Perry, Georgia. She was Maude’s oldest daughter with two sisters Susan and Julia and two brothers Brenest and John Stokeling. As a child Eula attended Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in Henderson, GA. After obtaining her high school diploma she relocated to Miami to start her adult life. In 1957, Robert Calvin “RC” Bowens and Eula Mae Adkinson were married. They spent 65 years together and were blessed with 5 children: Virginia Bowens-Isom, Pamela Bowens- Saffo, Terry Bowens, Sandra Bowens, and their youngest Katherine Bowens- Sherman. Robert and Eula built a great life for their family in the Richmond Heights community for more than 50 years. From the offspring of their children was seven grandchildren: Mikhel Sherman, Benin Saffo, Kristien Sherman, Zebian Saffo, Anea Isom, Satchel Sherman, and Isaac Isom. Eula was also able to witness her 3 great-grandchildren enter the world: Pear, Maverick, and Smiley-Mae. While living in Richmond Heights, Eula declared her church affiliation at Bethel Baptist Church. She served on multiple committees at Bethel such as the Mass Choir, Circle Ruth and the Mission. Following her membership at Bethel under Rev. Ross to Rev. Walker Eula and the family moved their membership to Second Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Ferguson. At Second Baptist Eula served as the Women’s Mission Vice President, Seaboard member, Elite Educators Sunday School Class, Feed my Sheep food ministry to name a few. Establishing a strong sense of community was importance to Eula. She founded the Young People’s Club of Richmond Heights. Outside of serving the youth Eula took great pride in her service organizations such as The Red Hatter’s Society, Richmond Heights Homeowner’s Association and being a dedicated Sister of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was also a Heroine of Jericho. Eula was a proud alumnus of Nova Southeastern University where she earned dual degrees in the Childhood Education. Eula served at the Miami Dade County School board for over 36years. Eula served at Frank C. Martin Elementary School and many other Miami Dade County Public schools. However, she found her forever teaching home at Howard Drive Elementary were she served until she decided to retire. In 2009, RC and Eula relocated to Fairburn, Georgia where they built their final earthly home together. Together RC and Eula built their utopia of home on earth for the 3rd time in a golfing suburb closer to all their children and back in their native state.
