Gary L. BoggsMcDonough, GeorgiaNovember 19, 1951 – January 16, 2026
Gary L. Boggs, 74, of McDonough, Georgia, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on November 19, 1951 in Anderson, SC, Gary dedicated much of his life to faith, family, and service to others. A devoted minister, he preached as an evangelist for over 11 years in the 1970s and early 1980s, traveling across 28 states to share the Gospel in minority churches and communities. Later in life, he continued his calling by Pastoring 2 churches for over 20 years, officiating funerals, weddings, and services throughout Georgia, bringing comfort, hope, and spiritual guidance to countless families during their most difficult times. His warm presence, heartfelt sermons, and genuine compassion touched many lives.
Gary was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his cherished wife of 50 years, Judith Boggs of McDonough; his child Stephanie Welch and her husband Chris Welch, grandchildren Zachry Aaron, Max Welch and Nora Welch, sister Pamela Boggs, her spouse Greg Wood and son Michael Boggs and extended family and friends who were blessed by his kindness and faith.
A man of deep faith, strong convictions, and quiet strength, Gary found joy in simple things—time with family, sharing stories, and serving his community. His legacy of love, ministry, and unwavering belief in God’s grace will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
A celebration of life service will be held at Southern Cremations and Funerals, 640 McGarity Road, McDonough, GA 30252 on Thursday, January 22, 2026, with visitation from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM followed by burial at 2:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to a local church, United Methodist missions, or a cause Gary supported.

Rest in peace, Rev. Gary—your light continues to shine.

Gary was a very good man with a funny sense of humor. These are pictures of the day that his daughter Stephanie married my son Chris
Gary has been a great friend since junior high school. He will truly be missed by all who knew him.
Mr. Boggs was my husband Steve and my teacher in high school at Tabernacle Christian school. He was a wonderful man.
I got to know Gary through my late husband, Michael , who was his next door neighbor and relative. Gary was very nice and we talked a lot, especially after Michael went to be with the Lord. Gary left a legacy of faith and hope. Nancy Steed Walden
I am saddened to learn of Gary’s passing. He was always happy and caring. We served in the same district often.
May he rest in perpetual peace and light!
Gary was a wonderful man, friend and pastor. We have known him for so many years. He has served our family in so many ways – a couple of weddings, several funerals, preaching the gospel and providing so much love, support, friendship and guidance throughout the years. He was truly a perfect example of a Christian and we loved him. Judy, we love you as well and pray for comfort for you. Gary will be missed and remembered in our hearts. I’m sure he, my mom and Tom have reconnected and are catching up!! Love, Karen and Lee Williams
To Judy, Stephanie, and the family. So sorry for your loss. Uncle Gary was a good man who loved you all so very much. He was always kind to me and would share a joke or laugh with that infectious wild laughter. 😂 I hate that he suffered as he did for that period of time, but we will see him again in the golden Kingdom.
I want to thank you for how you took care of grandmother Karr and all the love you gave her as she lived with you and your family. It won’t be long now until our entire family is reunited as we sit at the feet of Jesus.
Blessings and best,
Ronan Roswell
For many years I grew up next door to Gary. Since I was born he held me in his arms like to tell jokes and just enjoy each other’s company. As the year’s went by and the older I got I still cherish those memories of him and I as we joke around. Talk about sports differently Football he was a big time Chicago Bears fan I sure will miss him. Judy and Stephanie my heart and love goes out to you both during this difficult time of losing your loved one. I love you both Josh
My and Gary’s paths in life crossed several times. I discovered after the fact, we even shared the same ministry post at separate times. Gary was always upbeat, jovial, and a vocal witness for Christ. Though I had not seen him in many years, he left a positive imprint on my life and I know on the lives of many others. I will see you in heaven, brother.
