George William Culpepper

December 31, 1947 ~ May 16, 2023

George William (“Billy”) Culpepper, 75, of Mableton, GA peacefully passed on May 16, 2023, after a lengthy illness. During this time, he was supported through prayers and visits by family and dear friends. Mr. Culpepper was born in Macon, Georgia. He is preceded in death by his parents, George William Culpepper, Sr. and Vera LuNelle Hobby Culpepper, sister Mary Kathryn Culpepper and son, George William (“BJ”) Culpepper, III. Survivors are Sister, Beverly S. Culpepper, nephews, Shannon Batts (grandnieces, Julianna Batts and Allison Batts) and Garrett Batts (Melissa) (grandnieces, Addison Elsberry and Graycen Batts); Stepchildren, Nahum Nicholas (Patrick Buckley), granddaughter, Ariel Buckley; Jessica Lyon (Adam), grandson, Alex Lyon; and Wesley Nicholas; Grandchildren, Brandon Culpepper (Cox), Bella Culpepper (Cox) and Christian Culpepper (Cox). Mr. Culpepper attended Lanier High School and Dudley Hughes High School. As a teenager, Billy stepped into the position of managing and continuing the daily operations of the family business, Bibb Provision Company, following his father’s heart attack and hospitalization. Billy worked many years at Bibb Provision, until he was drafted into the Army during the Viet Nam War. He was stationed at Fort Benning and Fort Gordon where he trained as a paratrooper and rigger. After he was honorably discharged, he returned to Macon and the family business. Later, he began his own successful business ventures, moving to the Atlanta suburbs in the 1990s to expand his business. Billy is known as a kind and fair man of many interests. In the 1950s and 1960s, he began developing a variety of career interests and talents such as booking agent/promoter, ballroom dance teacher, marksman, horse trainer, love of riding Harleys, Motown Music and a staunch supporter of the civil rights movement. His passion for outdoor work, however, began with a tractor at the farm of his beloved grandparents in Ashburn, GA. Those times were his fondest memories. He loved digging in the dirt so much that he parlayed that into his heavy equipment business. If you would like to make a honorarium or remembrance in his name, please send a contribution to WellStar Tranquility at Cobb Hospital Hospice; 4040 Hospital West Drive, Austell, GA 30106. A Celebration of Life is being scheduled.

It’s been hard looking across the room not seeing you joking, and smiling. To Billy’s family, thank you for sharing your family’s light(Billy). May God continue to bless you with strength, and love. Comfort each other in your time of sorrow. I love you Billy, and family. There’s nothing you can do about it.🙏🙏🙏 Terence Harris

  2. No matter what Billy was facing. He always remained positive and pleasant. He was such a joy to be around. Never heard him upset or complain about anything. Just a very simple man. He will be truly missed. Praying for his family through this difficult time.
