Grace Louise Williams was born September 19, 1935, in Mobile, Alabama to her loving parents, Raymond Thomas, Sr. And Viola Thomas. Growing up the baby of 10, she was always soft-spoken and quiet in nature, but when she spoke, the room listened. Throughout her life she accomplished many things, but her greatest accomplishment was being a mother. She was blessed with seven beautiful and devoted children, O’dessa, Gregory (Sharon), Lawrence (Eileen), Keith, Cheryl (Charles), Walter Jr. (Yvette), and Emir (April). Through her children, she was also blessed to become a grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother, affectionately known to all as “Gigi”.
She was always the first person to call you on your birthday to sing “Happy Birthday” and wish you “…many more!”. She was the keeper of the family recipes for fudge, peanut butter cookies, and Heavenly Hash. She always carried Brach’s Peppermints in her purse and a smile that could make your worst day disappear.
Grace was called home on February 18, 2025, to be reunited with her parents; her husband, Walter Williams, Sr.; her siblings, Raymond Jr., Marie, James, Viola, Genevieve, Theresa, Ethel, and Catherine; her granddaughters Louisa and Emiyah; her longtime companion, Richard Williams Jr.; and many family members whom she missed dearly.
We were blessed with 89 years of her wisdom, love, and kindness. She was a true Matriarch in every sense of the word. She will be dearly missed by all of her loved ones she leaves behind, including her sister, Gloria, whom she loved deeply.
Her family would like to thank everyone for the love, prayers, and compassion during this difficult time.
