Jack Franklin Morris, a beloved father, teacher, and sports enthusiast, passed away on November 27, 2023, at the age of 89. Born on April 19, 1934, to Ira and Snow White Morris, Jack's life was marked by dedication, kindness, and a passion for education and athletics.
Jack's academic journey began at the University of Georgia, where he obtained his bachelor's degree in 1959. Inspired by a desire to serve his country, he joined the military and became a Specialist. His commitment to his duty was evident, and he received an honorable discharge.
After his military service, Jack returned to the University of Georgia to pursue his passion for teaching. In 1975, he proudly earned his Masters Degree, further solidifying his dedication to education. Jack's career primarily revolved around teaching and coaching football at both the elementary and high school levels. His students and players fondly remember him for his patience, guidance, and unwavering support.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Jack possessed a vibrant zest for life. An avid exerciser, he enjoyed long walks and actively maintained his physical well-being. A testament to his active lifestyle was his remarkable feat of hiking Stone Mountain to celebrate his 80th birthday. Jack also had a profound love for UGA football and could often be found cheering on his favorite team. Along the same line, he was a professional Cornhole enthusiast.
However, it is Jack's kindness and gentle nature that truly defined him as a human being. His generous spirit touched the lives of countless individuals. The loss of Jack leaves an irreplaceable void in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Ira and Snow White Morris, his wife Barbara Minnis Morris, as well as his siblings Ira Morris Jr., Mary Owenby, Lawrence Morris Sr., and Tommy Morris. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Alisa and David Dohanich, his grandchildren Shelby Dallas and Shane Dallas, and his sister, Carolyn West. Additionally, he leaves behind his in-laws Fred Hightower, Beverly Harding, Larry Harding, Louis Dohanich, and Melissa Morrill, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Jack Franklin Morris will forever be remembered for his kindness, dedication to education, love of sports, and his unwavering support for his loved ones. His legacy will continue to inspire others for generations to come.In Lieu of flowers, the family has kindly asked for donations made to Sacred Journey Hospice of Newnan, Georgia.
