James Edward Spivey

May 21, 1946 ~ October 19, 2022

James (Jim) Edward Spivey of Mableton, Georgia passed away peacefully on Wednesday October 19, 2022 and went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He is preceded in death by his father, Wilbur C. Spivey, mother, Frances Spivey, and his brother Michael Spivey (Linda). Jim is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Sandra Spivey, his daughter Ashton Spivey, and his sons; James E Spivey Jr. (Tiffany), and Joseph Spivey, stepdaughter: Sandy Laughridge, stepson: Scott Kelly (deceased), daughter-in-law: Lori Kelly, and loving brother: David Spivey (Faith). His grandchildren: Devyn Kelly, Ivey Kelly, and his beloved little Peyton and Madison Ackril and numerous nieces and nephews. Proudly serving in the Marine Corps for 11 years, Jim was a highly decorated sergeant. He was a member of American Legion Post 264 and American Legion Auxiliary Unit Post 264 of Mableton, GA. Both of which we give special thanks to. During his 11 years of service Jim served in Vietnam from 1965-1966 and it was then when he earned the rank of sergeant. Honorably, he was awarded numerous decoration medals, badges, commendations, citations, and campaign ribbons. They are as follows: Vietnam Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Presidential Unit Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Rifle Marksman Badge, and Pistol Marksman Badge. In his years of service, Jim truly lived by the Marines moto Simper Fidelis and served with full dedication and loyalty. After his service, Jim worked in security but still managed to find time to pursue his hobbies. Whether it was pouring himself into a new wood working project, riding his motor cycle down the highway, or boating out on the water, he enjoyed his life to the fullest. A graveside service will be at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA 30114 on November 17, 2022 at 11:30 AM. Immediately following the service, a reception will be held at 423 Crestmont Lane Canton, GA 30114. A memorial service will be held at Concord Baptist Church, 4494 Floyd Rd SW, Mableton, GA., December 3, 2022 at 11:30 AM.

We will never forget the time we all went to sun set cove on Lake Lanier and Jim got his rope wrapped around two or three boats and my son in law dove in the water to untangle the rope from the other boats and Jim had no idea what was happening . There is so many fond memories that we have had with Jim & Sandra and will never forget. Our sincere condolences and may he rest in peace. With all our love, Ted & Karen Paul
