James Young

September 23, 1947 ~ March 14, 2025

Mr. James "Sunny" Young, 77 of Newnan, GA and husband of Mrs. Mary Jo Young, passed away on March 14, 2024 at his residence. James Young's life was one of resilience, adventure, and artistry. Born and raised in Texas, he carried his roots with pride, never missing an opportunity to remind others of where he came from. Eventually, he settled in the Georgia mountains with his four children, later moving to Newnan, where he spent his final days. James was a man of great wanderlust, traveling across the United States numerous times, calling places like California and New York home. His spirit of adventure extended beyond the U.S., as he’d often hop on a plane or take a drive to places like El Salvador. A master craftsman, James was known for his intricate jewelry, created by hand under the name "Arts of the King." Each piece was one of a kind, and his work was coveted by many, including notable figures such as OutKast, India Arie, and Aretha Franklin, whose funeral he attended personally. James took great pride in his health, embracing daily teas and fasting as part of his routine. However, in 2020, his health took a sudden downturn when he suffered two strokes in quick succession. These strokes led to brain surgery and extended hospital stays, but James was a fighter. After his recovery, he focused on regaining his strength and planned to travel once more and continue selling his handcrafted jewelry. In the years that followed, James found joy in welcoming grandchildren into his life, a source of great pride and happiness. However, the passing of his father deeply affected him, and with a heavy heart, he made the peaceful decision to end his fight, knowing he would soon be reunited with his father in heaven. He leaves behind his loving wife of 44 years, his children and grandchildren, a sister, a brother, and many nieces and nephews. James Young’s legacy of love, strength, and creativity will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. Memorial Services will be held at the chapel of Southern Cremations & Funerals at Holly Hill on Saturday, March 29, 2025 at 11:00 AM. Please express your condolences here on our website.
