Jane Allen Barnett, 83 formerly from Marietta, Georgia died on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at Wildwood Nursing home in Talking Rock, Georgia, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. Jane was born on May 30, 1941, in Asheville, NC. She was the fifth of seven daughters born to the late Enoch N. and Mae (Stiles) Allen from Murphy, NC.
Jane attended Murphy High School and graduated in May 1959, where she was a varsity cheerleader and played basketball. She was voted “The Friendliest” during her senior year by her classmates.
Jane married the late Joe Lee Barnett on December 20, 1958. After graduating from high school, she joined him in Marietta where he was a home developer. She assisted him with his own home development business and helped him to make it a very successful business, while raising 2 daughters. Later, she obtained her Real Estate license and eventually retired from United Community Bank.
Her family was the most important thing in her life, and she enjoyed spending time with them. She was involved in her daughter’s school as a room mother or volunteering at the school, brownie and girl scout leader and a dance mom. She made many trips to Florida on Spring break with a carload of girls! She was an avid fan of her granddaughter’s softball games and her grandson’s Boy Scouting events!
She was a long-time member of First Methodist Church in Marietta, before she got to the point where she could no longer attend, due to her disease.
She was able to take trips with her daughter to experience a New England Fall Foliage tour, two weeks in Italy, the Pacific Northwest coastline were among her favorites places to go. She was even brave enough to go parasailing in the Bahamas, even though she couldn’t swim!
Jane was preceded in death by her daughter, Pamela Jo Barnett Buck of Marietta. Her sisters Helen A. Taylor and Monteen A. Wilson of Candler, NC, Geraldine A. Sanders of Columbia, TN, Shirley A. Griffith of Murphy, NC and Linda A. White of Clyde, NC, (who preceded her 7 weeks ago)
Jane is survived by her daughter, Sheila B. Milota of Cartersville, son-in-law Robert (Bob) Buck of Marietta, granddaughter, Hayley Jane Buck (Clint Deas) of Roswell, grandson, Andrew Joel Milota of Hiram, two great grandsons Bos and Chief Deas and sister, Eula A. (Wendell) Moore of Hayesville, NC and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, Sep. 19th beginning at 12:00 pm -1:30 pm at Southern Cremations at Cheatham Hill on 1861 Dallas Highway, Marietta, GA. inside their Columbarium. Jane’s nephew, Rev. Allen Scroggs, will officiate. The Funeral service will begin at 1:30 pm and end at 2:30 pm with a reception immediately following the service, also in the Columbarium.
The family wishes to thank the staff and nurses of Wildwood Nursing Home and to Agape Hospice who took such wonderful care of her in her last few months of her life.
