Obituary for Jay Brundage Hanson
Jay Brundage Hanson, son of the late Emma Edna Brundage and the late Carl Clifford Hanson of Lexington, Massachusetts, was born on March 28, 1941. He attended Lexington schools and graduated from Tufts University in 1963.
He married Anne Elizabeth Keith on July 13, 1963. He served in the US Air Force at March Air Force Base, California. After his discharge he joined IBM and worked there for 25 years. In 1975 IBM moved him and his family to Marietta, Georgia. Children: the late Lee Dean Armstrong Hanson of Clarksville, Tennessee, the late Hope Huang Hanson of Marietta, Georgia, Keith John Hanson of Marietta, Georgia, Elizabeth Jane Hanson Frost of Powder Springs, Georgia. Jay is also survived by 6 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Jay was an elder in the Presbyterian Church USA and a member of the IBM Quarter Century Club. His hobbies included collecting pop hits and movies, ice skating, teaching ballroom dance, and singing in choirs and choruses.
Jay will always be remembered for his friendly, generous nature and the way that he gave so much of his time and energy to others. It started at home with his wife and kids and expanded out to all those who met him. He never met a stranger and often called those who worked in stores he frequented by their first name as if they were old friends, which of course, they were. We’ll never forget Sean who worked at Publix or Anita at the bank. He loved serving and being involved in the church. He volunteered weekly at CASA and in the choir, monthly for MUST Ministries and the Elizabeth Inn, and yearly for vacation bible school. For years, he was involved in the Atlanta Figure Skating Club.
As he got older, his favorite role by far was Grandpa. He made many trips up to Clarksville and hosted many visits from his great grandchildren. His local grandchildren were lucky to be close, as he doted on them tirelessly. He made sure he was part of everything in their lives- school events, soccer, holidays, and was always so focused on their happiness, spoiling them any chance he got. His devotion was unparalleled.
We couldn’t have asked for a better husband, father, grandpa and will miss him every day. His memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved him and who received movies from him.
Jay died peacefully on August 23, 2024, with Anne by his side.
