Marietta Southern Cremations & Funerals
John Paul Sullivan - dedicated husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend - passed away January 2, 2022.
John was born to Eugene and Mae Sullivan in Mobile, AL on August 14, 1952. He graduated from McGill Toolen in 1970 before attending The University of South Alabama. There he began his 35 year career in the restaurant business with Morrisons’s Cafeteria and later moving on to Cracker Barrel and The Darden Group. While working at Morrison’s, little did John know he would meet his wife Leslie dining with her parents. He stopped by their table to check to see how their meal was and Leslie couldn’t help but proclaim that their green beans tasted like they came straight out of a can. The rest was history.
John and Leslie married on June 19, 1982. On December 10, 1985 John and Leslie welcomed their twin daughters Katherine (Katie) and Ashley.
Through the years John enjoyed being his daughters’ biggest cheerleader in all of their endeavors, traveling with his family, going to the beach, working in the yard and most importantly serving his Lord and Savior.
John and Leslie lived in a few different cities throughout the years but finally settled and called Acworth, GA home for 27 years.
John loved being a grandfather to his five grandchildren. He has taught them how to race cars down a track, throw a ball, ride a bike, how to use binoculars, build cities with blocks, construct train tracks, how to say their prayers and enjoy the little things in life.
John is survived by his wife Leslie; their children Katherine (Brandon) Miller and Ashley (Joseph) Honour; four grandchildren, Jake, Nora, Saxton and Penny; his siblings Michael (Drexell) Sullivan, Judy Sullivan Ferniany (Edward), Theresa Sullivan Kyser(Larry), Richard Sullivan (Kathy), Robin Sullivan, sisters-in-law Jean and Tricia Sullivan and many nieces and nephews.John was blessed with a large and loving family.
He is preceded by his parents Eugene and Mae Sutter Sullivan, brothers Gene, Gary, and David Sullivan, sister Jamie Sullivan Johnson, and granddaughter Emma Honour.

I have had the privilege of getting to know John , because my son married his precious daughter, Ashley. John had a quiet confidence that could bring great comfort. John said something that I will never forget…. “it will be ok”! I heard him say these words in a time of sadness. I found great comfort in them. These words will resonate in my mind as long as I breathe! John…. I know it will be ok and we WILL never forget you.
