Today we honor and remember the life of Leroy Owens Sr. It is difficult to find the right words to encapsulate the depth of our feelings, but we pay tribute to him in a way that reflects the love and respect we all have for him and the many lives that he has touched. Whether it was through his warm smile, many acts of kindness, generosity, and unwavering spirit, Leroy left an indelible mark on all of us. Leroy was born in Alexandria, Georgia on October 4, 1930, to Robert Lee and Annabell Owens. He was the second child of seven siblings.
He attended Sardis R. L. High School and subsequently met the love of his life, Juanita Dixon. They were united in holy matrimony on August 5, 1947, and were blessed with 64 wonderful years together and six beautiful children. To his family and close friends, Leroy was a source of strength and unwavering support. He was always there in times of need, offering compassion, a listening ear, and a heart full of love. His home was a sanctuary of warmth, a place where everyone felt welcome and valued.
In his professional life, Leroy was dedicated and passionate. He approached every task with enthusiasm and integrity, earning the respect and admiration of colleagues and peers. His contributions were significant, leaving a lasting legacy in his field. Leroy was a Union carpenter and subsequently a stationary engineer at Pine Forge Academy in Pine Forge, Pennsylvania.
In 1985, Leroy and Juanita opened “The Owens Family Connection Restaurant”, located in North Philadelphia. They open a second restaurant in the Germantown section of Philadelphia. They competed in many culinary competitions and won several first-place awards. They received the Philadelphia Mayor’s “Liberty Bell” Award for their entrepreneurial accomplishments. The couple moved to Atlanta and started a new business venture.
But beyond his achievements, what truly defined Leroy was his character. He was a person of deep principles, always standing up for what was right and just. His empathy knew no bounds, and he never hesitated to lend a hand to those in need. He believed in the goodness of people and the power of community, and he lived those beliefs every day.

Leroy Owens was an exceptional and caring man . My brother broke the mold in all areas . He was truly a great person. It would take ten men to make his one . He worked hard , he was strong in his faith, he cared about and tried to help everyone he could. He would go and feed the hungry. Rest in Peace . Betty
