Fairburn Southern Cremations & Funerals
Lewis E. Claxton, Jr, 85, of Newnan, Georgia passed into glory on Tuesday, December 6, 2022. He passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving wife, his sons and his life long friends after a brief hospitalization. Lewis was born on December 24th, 1937, in Atlanta but spent his childhood in Augusta, Georgia. He is the son of the late Lewis Eugene (Gene) Claxton, Sr. and the late Eve Claxton Orkin (nee Tanner). In addition to his parents, Lewis was preceded in death by his sister, Joan Atkins and his son, Ronnie Claxton. Lewis leaves behind a legacy of laughter, love and friendship. Among those who will cherish their time on earth with him are his loving wife of 40 years, Linda Port Claxton; his sons from his first marriage Gene (Kim) Claxton of Lenexa, Kansas and Chuck (Debra) Claxton of Greenville, Indiana; and his grandsons Tanner and Tucker (Gene and Kim) and Bruce (Kate), Daniel (Liz) and Josh (Chuck and Debra); a sister-in-law Mary Ellen Goode; and a number of close friends and extended family. He adored his great-granddaughter Maddie (Bruce and Kate) and great-grandson Griffin (Daniel and Liz).
Lewis loved the Lord, his friends and family. He collected model cars and had a number of beloved pets through the years. He loved being the life of the party and was always good at it! Before his retirement, Lewis owned a small business as a sub-contractor selling and installing insulation in Atlanta and in Morrow, Georgia for over 40 years.
The family would like to recognize his close friends who also served as Lewis’ caregivers for the past decade. They helped Linda immeasurably as Lewis battled dementia and decreasing physical mobility. Kathleen and Steve Hulgan, Katheryn Gray, Eddie Clark, Christina Lee, and Vickie Kinney, the family appreciates everything you’ve done for Lewis and Linda through the years. May God bless you as you mourn with the family.
