Marvin Mahan

December 5, 1952 ~ February 12, 2023

We mournfully announce the passing of Marvin Mahan, 70, of Stone Mountain, GA. Marvin passed away on February 12, 2023, after a hard-fought battle with pneumonia secondary to cancer. Marvin, born to Mr. & Mrs. Eugene and Edna Mahan, took his first breath on December 05, 1952. Marvin was a force to be reckoned with, graduating from Parker High School in 1971 and completed an electrician program thereafter. Marvin was employed at Georgia State University where he was able to love on and pour into our future generation.While Marvin never married or had children of his own, his nephews and nieces meant more to him than words can describe. The exchange would include, but not limited to playful banter and sweets. We will miss him dearly. Marvin was predeceased by his father: Eugene Mahan, mother: Edna Mahan, sisters: Loretta Hagler-Marshall and Donna Rayford, brothers: Eugene Mahan Jr and Herbert Mahan and nephews: Danny Jones, Lonnell Mahan and Kenneth Rayford. He is survived by his brothers: Edwin (Betty) Mahan, Robert (Stephanie) Mahan, Donald Mahan, sister: Aletha Roberson and a host of nieces/nephews, great nieces/nephews, cousins and friends. Services will be held at Southern Cremations and Funerals on Monday, February 20, 2023 with viewing from 2:00pm-3:00pm followed by ceremony from 3:00pm-5:00pm.

    A: I meant Mr. at Georgia State University. We worked together. He was very helpful in training me. And he is helpful…

  6. I met Mr. Marvin my first day working at GSU in Housing. He was so honest and direct, I knew immediately how much he cared about his work and the students that depended on him. That was confirmed when I saw his positive encounters (and frequent fist bumps) with students. He will leave a space In our team and in our hearts that will be hard to fill. But I know we will all continue on in his memory and following his example.

  8. I think about all of us growing up on Normal. As kids I remember how you never said anything mean to me. We have a good time as family and friends. Rest my brother. Sharon Crutcher Cain

  9. Grew up with Marvin on Normal in Chicago. We had large families on the block. We had fun as children and our families on the block always kept up with someone as to how people were doing although most of us moved on. Rest Marvin. You were a friend to me.
