Mary Rebecca 'Becky' Murray

October 17, 1952 ~ June 12, 2024

Mary Rebecca Murray (affectionately called Becky) was born October 17, 1952 to the late John Jacob Murray and Edna Christine Waddell in Kings County Hospital Brooklyn, New York. She was the ninth child out of 14 children and was surrounded with much love and affection. She fell asleep in death on June 12, 2024 after a long illness at Piedmont Fayette Hospital in Fayetteville, Georgia, also surrounded by her loving family. Becky attended P.S. 133 (Elementary), I.S.136 (Intermediate) and Julia Richman High School in New York, NY. During her school years she was gifted academically and received honors. Becky enjoyed spending time with her family. Whether it be at a cookout or family reunion. Her favorite foods were cabbage, peas and rice, and banana pudding. She enjoyed reading, music, dancing, cooking, bowling among other activities. Becky also loved cats. She was kind and generous to her family and had a smile that can brighten your day. Becky enjoyed reading the Bible, no doubt she learned this from her mother as she would watch her do so many mornings. Her mother taught her many things from the Bible. Becky too was a loving mother who doted on her children, Jeffrey (Jeffergene) and Linda (LouLou) whom she named affectionately and taught them many things from the Bible. Teaching them that God’s name was Jehovah, and that His Son’s name was Jesus. She expressed often to her children how much she loved them and how she wanted them to be happy and have a good life. One day when Jehovah’s Witnesses knocked at the door and offered her a Bible study, she did not hesitate to accept it. Petra Batiste and many other witnesses of the Triboro Congregation NY spent time with Becky teaching her about Jehovah’s Kingdom and His purposes for the earth. Being an avid student and enthusiastic about what she was learning Becky dedicated her life to Jehovah and was baptized on August 20, 1977, at the “Joyful Workers” District Assembly at Belmont Park in Elmont NY. This was Becky’s first district convention which she enjoyed thoroughly and looked forward to attending many more. She also made sure that Jeffrey and LouLou would be right alongside her. This same love trickled down to her grandchildren who brought her much joy and happiness later in life. Becky was privileged to be part of a large spiritual family over the years including friends from various congregations: Triboro, Macombs, (NY) West Farms (Bronx) and North Fairburn, Union City Georgia. Throughout the years she enjoyed close fellowship with her brothers and sisters, cooking for them sweet potato and buttermilk custard pies and other dishes when they would have gatherings. She also enjoyed shopping for her family and friends buying them gifts that made them happy as well as herself. Although she didn’t have much, she enjoyed sharing whatever she had with others. Becky faced many challenges in her life but always relied on Jehovah for guidance and strength to get through them. She kept her eyes focused on the future and how Jehovah would accomplish his purpose of restoring earth to a beautiful Paradise. She longed for Paradise to see an earth filled with people who loved Jehovah God, Jesus Christ and one another. Where there would be no more sickness, pain or death. You could not have a conversation with Becky without Becky telling you about “Paradise” or to “Pray to Jehovah” or “Trust in Jehovah.” This is what Becky did and encouraged others to do the same. Jeffrey, Delicia, Linda and Clarence took very good care of their mother and mother-in-law in a very loving way contributing to her well-being and happiness. She was proud they were part of her family. She was also very proud of her grandchildren whom she loved very much and brought her much happiness, she thanked Jehovah for them always. Becky leaves to cherish her memories (son), Jeffrey Murray (Delicia) and (daughter) Linda (LouLou) Thompson; (grandchildren) Jeffrey (Jay) Williams, Dr. Jasmine Williams and Brian (BJ) Thompson; (siblings) Brenda Poole, Marva Samuels, Marvin Murray, Rosetta Miley and Wanda Miley; (special and dear friend) Lela Howard; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Preceded in death (son-in-law) Clarence Thompson; (stepfather) Rhodell Miley; (siblings) Martha Murray, John Murray, Ruby Lockhart, Walter Miley, Anthony Miley, Theresa Inniss, Tina Moton, and Gale Brown; (brothers-in-law) Marion Brown, John Moton and Robert Samuels. The field ministry was very important to Becky, and she would have a meaningful share when able to do so. She would strive to bring praise, glory and honor to Jehovah God and His Son Christ Jesus by declaring the good news about the Kingdom to her family, friends and anyone who would listen. Jehovah too will reward Becky when Jesus awakens her in that promised Paradise. Until then, rest now Becky and know that your family will always love you, now and forever! (Luke 23:43) And he said to him: “Truly I tell you today, you will be with me in Paradise.”
