It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Mrs. Melba Gladney Ford, who left us peacefully on March 13, 2025, at the age of 89. Mrs. Ford was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Her kindness, generosity, and unwavering spirit touched the lives of all who knew her.
Mrs. Ford was born on November 8, 1935. She married the love of her life, Franklin E. Ford, who preceded her in death.
Melba lived in Smyrna, GA for 60 years, where she was known for her devotion and love for God and family, which were unmeasurable. She retired from Scholastic Book Fair after 15 years of dedicated service. Her life was well lived, filled with love, faith, and service to others.
Her loving family includes her children, Dianne (James R.) Bucy and Beth Wells; her grandchildren, John M. Bucy, Alisa and Candler Atcheson, Tracy and Nick Grui, Ryan and Sabrina Wells, and Hillary and Robert New; her great-grandchildren, Eric, Grace, and Robert Jr.; her siblings, Dorothy Morris and William (Joan) Gladney; and many other relatives and friends.
Though she has left this earth, we find comfort in knowing she received a glorious welcome in heaven. Melba's warmth, wisdom, and love will be deeply missed, but her legacy will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her.

Nana was like a 2nd mom to me. She was there for me during hard times and gave unconditional love and support. Because of her and my grandfather, I have some of the best childhood memories. I miss her dearly, but I know she is celebrating in Heaven and having a whopping family reunion up there. This is not goodbye, this is just til we meet again on the other side. Love you Nana.
There are so many wonderful memories that I have of her. She will be missed!!
I remember Melba as an awesome friend to my mother. As a kid I spent lots of time at her home, she was an awesome cook. I’m sure her family will feel her absence. Diane – I feel your loss. Keep her close to you. With great sympathy, Karen and Cheryl
Melba was a very special person in my life! I was always welcomed in her house as a young teen. But the years of fixing her hair and enjoying her wisdom and stories shine compared to earlier memories. The picture was taken at the shop this past Christmas! (That guys my husband) I will miss Melba so very much and send my love and sympathy to her family!
Our dear sweet Nana…it’s going to be
different now when I come home from
work, walk in the room to say hello and
you aren’t there.
You always asked me how my day went even
though sometimes you didn’t know who I
was, but it was the dementia talking as I
know the real you inside.
I especially found it hilarious when you say “We’re glad you came to visit” unaware that I lived in the same house. 😂
I helped mom and dad get you up out of bed onto your feet and over to the dining room table, on occasion to the toilet as well before you lost the strength to stand on your own.
Although some situations were a little uncomfortable for me, I did what had to be done to help my mom out because that is what family does.
Alisa would come visit with you as mom and dad needed a little break on occasion.
I will miss your smile and all the conversations about your past.
I know you are rejoicing in heaven with my
grandfather, your daughter Beth, your siblings William and Dorathy, your mother and father and all other family members.
We love you Nana 🙏🏻❤️
