McDonough Southern Funerals & Cremations
Michael Anthony Hills was born April 21, 1958 in New Orleans, Louisiana to mother Cealie Hills. He attended Warren Easton High School in New Orleans and later obtainted his carpentry certification. After meeting wife Linda Talbott, the two married in September 1978 and began their family in his hometown.
After having a dream in which he saw himself in Atlanta, he was led by the Lord to relocate. There he was a part of the booming construction scene in the late 80s. His master carpentry skills facilitated his contribution to new projects all around the city. A skilled jack of all trades, he never stopped expounding upon his craft. Becoming proficient in masonry, electrical and millwork, he could literally build a home with his own two hands. He was also self-employed for a time, leaving his personal touches on affluent private residences through design and handcraftsmanship. Recently retired, he focused his free time on integrating his personal touch to his home.
He was a sports and music enthusiast, appreciating the athleticism of football players and gymnasts alike while also admiring the musicianship of players of the saxophone and drums.
His legacy is imprinted on the city, both in ventures of hand and of heart. While one cannot drive anywhere in the city without passing a building fortified by his hammer, his most prized accomplishment was his family. Affectionately “daddy” and “granddaddy Mike”, his sense of humor was unforgettable, always quickwitted and one to enjoy a good laugh. He was spontaneous, often doing grand things, that would normally require preplanning, on a whim. And he loved to tell a good story, wholeheartedly recounting the experience as if he were reliving the moment in the present. His girls also know he could lay a good ponytail.
Michael was a man of strong faith. He was steadfast that faith comes by hearing His Word and through faith, we please God. For this reason, he constantly nourished his spirit with teachings and meditated on words God laid on his heart. He knew that what we believe in our hearts and profess with our mouths comes to pass.
Michael is proceeded in death by mother Cealie Hills, Warren Hills, and Huey and Corrine Chambers.

I remember when I would spend the summers with them and he would take Erica and I to work with him on the weekends. We used to want to go until it was time to get up. He’d take us…. but he’d do all the work! After we/he was done; we’d want our pay… and he would fuss; but he’d always pay us for a job not done. I’ll cherish those memories forever 🕊💙
We are so very sad to hear of Mike’s passing. He was a very dedicated and talented Superintendent with us at CorkHoward Construction for over 18 years. He was very well respected and everyone here had nothing but kind words for Mike and his abilities. When Mike finished a project, we knew it was finished 100% with no lingering items left undone. He was truly a detail oriented craftsman and he cared about every project that bore our name. He always made sure the project was done right and the client was happy. He will be sorely missed here by all.
God Bless
Memories, painful and sweet at the same time. ❤️May the pain lessen but the sweet increase.
Love you All

I worked with Mike at Cork-Howard Construction. He was always so polite and easy going. I would always mess with him about getting a paper check and he would tell me he wouldn’t do direct deposit. He wanted to touch his money. I always looked forward in him picking up his checks as he was so pleasant to be around. God bless you, Mike. You will be truly missed.
My deepest sympathy on the loss of your Dad. May your memories of your happy times with Michael give you comfort during this difficult time.
