Fairburn Southern Funerals & Cremations
Michael David HenleyMay 26, 1951 - March 25, 2024Mike was born and grew up in Houston, Texas, with his sister Dara, and father andmother, Martin Ellis and Laura Myrtis Henley. Mike was protective of his sister, andDara thought he was “the best big brother.”After high school Mike attended Ambassador College in Big Sandy, Texas. WhenDarlene started at Ambassador in fall of 1970 they dated, and soon after he told hisfather, “I’ve met the girl I’m going to marry!” They married in 1974 and together raisedtwo daughters, Brandy and Brittany.Following college, Mike worked as a ministerial trainee for his church for a year, thenbegan a career in sales which started with a machining company in Columbus, Georgiaand continued with marketing and communications businesses he built. After retiringfrom that 15 years ago, he became a tax preparer, a part-time job he enjoyed, workingwith many clients year after year.As a boy Mike enjoyed outdoor sports, a love that continued throughout his life. Fromhigh school track and football to hunting, fishing, dirt bike riding, scuba diving and finallygolf, Mike pursued a variety of activities. Since much of what Mike did was an “all-out”pursuit, there are plenty of stories: getting stuck on a sandbar in Lake Seminole ona duck hunt … too many deer-hunting exploits to count! ... dirt-bike rides that ended inemergency rooms … rowing boats back to shore from the Gulf after engine failures…spear-fishing barracuda and facing a jaw-snapping fish when he missed … his firsthole-in-one on #13 at Maple Ridge (and he got a second some years later ;-) … hittingballs out of the water, or pushing a golf cart out of the mud and getting soaked ... Herelished those times with friends, and most of all with his daughters — saltwater fishingon the flats in the Gulf was a rite of passage for both! — and his favorite golfing partnerswere his kids.Mike’s faith in Christ was strong. He thanked God often for His plan in his life and for themany blessings he enjoyed — the greatest being his family. He was proud of hisdaughters’ and sons-in-law’s accomplishments (he referred to all of them as “his kids”)and bragged on them often to anyone who would listen!Mike will be remembered with much love by his wife, Darlene; daughters and sons-inlaw Brandy and Justin Huot and Brittany and Warren Woolfolk; granddaughters SabrinaMilan Mosto and Henley Grace Woolfolk; sister Dara Henley; brother-in-law DouglasBrown; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Family and friends will gather for aCelebration of Life at Coweta Club in Newnan, Georgia on April 27.
