Carl Leon Metts, age 70, of Jonesboro, Georgia, passed away on April 24, 2024. He was born on July 16, 1953, in Brooklyn, New York, the first grandchild of Evelyn and Emanuel Seon, and the first child of Shirley and Charles Metts. Carl was raised in Albany Projects and had a deep love for animals from a young age, especially rabbits, gerbils, and turtles.
As a preteen, Carl was a member of The Boys Scouts of America, showcasing his adventurous spirit and love for the outdoors. Known for his kind and compassionate nature, Carl was often described as having a "Big Heart," embodying generosity and warmth in all his interactions.Just like his grandfather, Emanuel Seon, you may have seen Carl taking long walks with his afro pick sticking out of his pocket or carrying a custom-made cane while listening to music on his Walkman.
Carl had a passion for dot drawing with colored pencils and enjoyed creating vibrant artworks to share with his loved ones. He also had a love for jazz music, owning a vast collection of jazz cassette tapes that he cherished and listened to on his old Walkman. Bringing him AA batteries, hats from his brothers, anything with the New York Yankees, and lottery scratch tickets never failed to bring a smile to his face, showcasing his simple joys and appreciation for the little things in life.Carl is survived by his mother, Shirley Herring-Lewis, siblings Shirl Herring, Norma Herring, Theodore Herring (Cassandra), Leonard Herring (Kimberly), and Anthony Herring, along with aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Leon Metts, brothers Paul Lawrence Metts and Earl Herring, and sister Desiree Metts.
The Visitation for Mr. Carl Leon Metts will be lived streamed on Saturday, May 4, 2024 beginning at 12:00 Noon. In the event the technical difficulties should occur, please know that recorded version will be posted to the website at the close of day on Saturday.
