Fairburn Southern Cremations & Funerals
Ms. Nora Duncan Hewitt of Fayetteville, Georgia slipped peacefully away to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 13th, 2022, at her home. She was 75 years old. Though her health was failing for years, few people knew the extent to which she struggled. Her joy for life and indomitable spirit kept her pushing through the pain. No matter how sick she was, she was determined to see her grandson, Isom, graduate from high school. She would say, “my prayer is to see my grandson graduate from high school.” – and that she did. Through her, we know what resilience and perseverance truly looks like when doctors have given up, but your faith moves you forward.
Nora Duncan Hewitt was born on March 14th, 1947. Nora grew up in Thunderbolt, GA, and was educated in the Savannah – Chatham County public school system, graduating from Alfred Ely Beach High School. Nora accepted Jesus Christ as her savior at an early age and was baptized at Wilmington Missionary Baptist Church. Later in life she became a member of Flat Rock A.M.E. Church where Reverend Edward J. Johnson Jr. is the presiding pastor in Fayetteville, GA.
Nora was married early in life to the late Joe Hewitt of Savannah, GA. Born to this union were their two sons Joseph Devan Hewitt of Rock Hill, SC, and Troy Isom (Cynthia) Hewitt of Fayetteville, GA. Nora spent most of her adult life in Fort Pierce, FL where she made a life for herself and her sons. She retired from the Florida Department of Transportation after 20 years of service.
Nora is preceded in death by her parents, Anna Duncan of Savannah, GA, Joe Philson of Darien, GA, and two brothers Tommie Lee and Mose Duncan of Savannah, GA. She leaves to cherish her memory thirteen siblings, nine sisters and four brothers: Henrietta Philson of Darien, GA, Betty Joe Drayton of Pleasantville, NJ, Elizabeth Norman, Delores Murray, Celestine Duncan, Arthur Duncan, Sally (John) Anderson, Tyrone (Gwendell) Duncan, Wallace (Taneese) Duncan, Carolyn Williams, Josephine Duncan, Angela Duncan, Leon (Erica) Duncan of Savannah, GA, sixteen grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Words cannot express our gratitude and love to Nora’s sister in Christ (Ida Minus, Fairburn, GA) and special friends (David Collins and Yvonne DeGraffenreid of Fort Pierce, FL) who have been devoted to Nora throughout the years (especially during her illness), Ms. Ida, Yvonne and David, we love you!
Thank You for your love and support over the years.

Troy, Praying for you and the Family, I know we all one day going to take this walk, not easy but with God all things are possible. C/O 85 Caprona
