Penora Savina Thomas, also known as Billie, passed away on January 5, 2024, at the age of 80 in Jonesboro, Georgia. She was born on September 15, 1943, in New York, New York. Penora was a beloved member of her community, known for her unwavering commitment to service and volunteerism.
Throughout her life, Penora dedicated herself to various organizations, providing her services in the schools her children attended, The Boys and Girls Scouts of America, and The Police Athletic League (PAL). In her later years, she focused on organizing financial packages for those in need. Penora's passion for crocheting led her to voluntarily teach others, creating hats, scarves, blankets, and sweaters with her skilled hands.
Penora's educational journey included attending Andrew Jackson High School and furthering her studies as a Bison at Howard University then continued at Touro College for her undergraduate degree and Fordham University for her graduate studies.
Professionally, Penora served as a Bursar at Touro College in Harlem, New York, and later worked as a Manager at Bank One in Arizona. Her dedication and hard work made a lasting impact on those she worked with.
In her free time, Penora indulged in various hobbies, including swimming as a lifeguard, synchronized swimming, reading, storytelling, sewing, knitting, crocheting, quilting, jewelry making, oil painting, and stain glass creations. Her artistic talents brought joy to many.
She is preceded by her loving parents, Ambrose Raymond Larsen, and Sylva (Sylvia) Thomas Larsen. Her sister Jacqueline (Honey) Mitchell and Brother- In- Law Andrew Mitchell. Nephew Glenn Westbrook and Niece Renee Westbrook.
Penora leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion. She is survived by her sisters, Norma Forde, and younger sister Elenor “Mike” Cheatum. Her husband, Dalma Thomas, and her God Daughter Malina Frazier. Her children: Vincent Randolph Hook, Lisa Louise Hook, Monica Danise Logan, and Nicole Savina Johnson. She was a cherished mother-in-law to Derrick LeRoy Logan and Frank Maurrie Johnson Jr. Penora's memory will also be cherished by her grandchildren: Jevon, Danise, Ryun Lee, Shannon, Janae, Bryana, Derrick II, Marcus, Alana, Elijah, Zachary, Anaya, and Mia. Her great-grandchildren: Kaylia, Rylan, Madison, Alyssa, Sebastian, and Mekhi. Additionally, she leaves behind a host of cousins, nephews, nieces.
Penora Savina Thomas, a compassionate and talented individual, will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. May her soul rest in eternal peace.

Q: Where did Penora like to travel?
A: My mom Penora loved to travel to the Caribbean Islands. She loved the warm sand, clear water and the beautiful people! She loved to go to the markets and acquire souvenirs to remember the island by. She frequently went to Antigua, Nassau Bahamas, Aruba, St Thomas and other islands.
