Richard LaFayette Newman

January 26, 1957 ~ September 26, 2024

Richard LaFayette Newman passed away peacefully at home in Hampton, GA on September 26, 2024, after a long battle with multiple illnesses. He was a Christian and went to be with God and The Lord Jesus Christ at the age of 67. Richard was born in Chattanooga, TN on January 26th, 1957, to Earlene Brown and Jewel Newman Sr. He was survived by his son, Richard Lamar Newman, and his service dog, Rascal Newman. He will be lovingly remembered by his brother and sister-in-law, Jewel and Holli Newman, his nephew, Brett Newman, his niece, Amanda Newman Schmidt, and cousin, Kim Smith. Richard grew up in both Marietta, GA and Isabella, TN. He played basketball and was always part of sports driven family. After high school he went on to college and later learned Industrial Engineering. He specialized in drawing production plants and HVAC systems while designing all his work in AutoCAD. He helped bring Teddy Grahams, the popular snack food to life by designing the entire production process for Nabisco. Richard's ability was also sought by the US Navy to help design a defense system used on battleships. He devoted himself to his work and raising his son. In his later life he enjoyed spending time with his son, Rich, and service dog, Rascal, in the comfort of his home as well as spending time with his church group. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Assistance Fund which helps individuals afford expensive medications for conditions like Multiple Sclerosis, which Richard Newman was diagnosed with in 2016. Thank you.
