McDonough Southern Cremations & Funerals
Rodney Keith Williams “Hot Rod”, Stockbridge, Georgia, passed away surrounded by his loving family, at Sacred Journey Hospice on Saturday, March 11, 2023 at 8:44 am. Rod was born to Edward Howard and Mattie [Johnson] Williams on February 8, 1949, in Baltimore, Maryland.
Rod is survived by his wife Ronda Cook Williams, son Jeffrey [Acazia] Williams, stepchildren Dustin [Julie] Freeman and Nikki Freeman, and grandchildren Emery Williams and DJ, Emma, Myles and Gracie Freeman, along with brother Matthew [Sharon] Williams and sister Vicki Harmis.
He was preceded in death by both of his parents, his brother Timmy Williams, nephews Ryan and Matt Williams, and brother-in-law Warren Harmis.
The third of four [4] children, Rod was a graduate of University of Richmond, Richmond, Virginia. He retired from Southern States Co-Op, Inc, Richmond, Virginia after 27 years of service. After playing as much golf as humanly possible, he returned to work at Southern Refreshments, Tucker, Georgia for 15 years.
Rod still made plenty of time for the love of his life, Ronda, and their beloved game of golf. Rod had an unquenchable thirst for life and an appreciation for the time given to him. He loved spending time playing and watching golf and tennis, showing off his artistic ability by working in the flower gardens at his home with Ronda and bringing old furniture to life and had a keen eye for beauty. He loved his Virginia Tech Hokies and the Atlanta Braves! Rod leaves a legacy of being “friendly” to everyone he encountered and never missed the chance to say “hello.” Above all he loved and cherished his time spent with friends and family especially his beloved wife Ronda, son Jeff, stepson Dustin [Jules] and stepdaughter Nikki and those precious grandchildren Emery, DJ, Emma, Myles and Gracie that he face-timed with at least twice a week. He would yell across the street to his brother-in-law Dennis and say “hey brother-in-law.” He made sure everyone knew how precious it was to be part of a family. He practiced that with his family, friends, work associates and friends at Eagles Landing Country Club and Georgia National Golf Club … he became family to everyone!
His memory will be cherished by special friends and family Mike “Coach”, Dennis, Hunter, Tom “Hammy”, Mary, Rich, Duffy, Karen “KMZ”, Collin, Cope, Clean, James, Tom “Kuhnsie”, Bono, Mark “Boston”, Cooper, Tracie, Jim and Veronica. These people know who they are and why they were so loved and cherished.
Visitation will be held Saturday, May 13th, from 2 – 3 p.m. and the Celebration of Life Service from 3 – 5 p.m. at Southern Cremations Funeral Home. Dennis Bishop officiating.
Rod’s ashes will be transported by his loving wife, Ronda, to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Imperial, Missouri where they will be buried.
In lieu of flowers, they are asking for donations be made to the family in the name of Ronda Williams, 2166 Caitlin Court, Barnhart, Missouri 63012.

Rod was such a class act. It was always a joy to be around him. He always made you feel good about yourself.
Let’s all toast a Bud Light to our amazing Friend!
Q: How did you meet Rodney?
A: I met Rod on the golf course up at the ELCC. Rod extended an invitation to me to join their golf group, and for that I will always be grateful joining a great group of guys. Playing with Rod was always fun and insightful. I will miss aka Big D. for his friendship and long golf drives that’s how I came up with his nickname I gave him 🏌️♀️.
I spent almost 15 years working with Rod. We played many rounds of golf together. The most important part of Rod was he made everyone feel important. As the manager of the coffee division of Southern Refreshment Services he helped develop one of the greatest services in the nation by managing a team, and I truly mean a team that exceeded all expectations from our staff and customers. He could walk into an extremely mad customer’s office and walk out with a happy new friend.
He exemplified the meaning of customer service!
God Bless you Rod, I will always miss you 🙏
