Ruth Mae Wyrosdick

Wyrosdick, Ruth Mae Shepherd passed peacefully on July 8 around 10:30 PM at her home in Marietta at the age of 92 and was born on November 1, 1930. She was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Willie Bridges Wyrosdick Jr. and her daughter Peggy Wyrosdick Cain of Acworth, GA. Surviving immediate family includes son-in-law Walter Cain of Acworth, son Kayren Jim Wyrosdick and wife Ann from Dahlonega, son Jerry Wyrosdick of Marietta and his ex-spouses Karen Wyrosdick of Cartersville and Marie Turner of Ellijay, granddaughter Randi Wyrosdick Smith and husband Kenneth Smith, great granddaughter Audrey Smith of Cartersville and great grandson-in-law Dylan Turner of Ellijay. She is also survived by a younger sister, Jean Poole of South Carolina. Ruth Shepherd Wyrosdick was born in Columbus, GA. The second daughter of seven siblings of Mary and Louis Shepherd. With both parents working, she and her sister June were charged with raising the rest of her siblings at a very early age. She married Willie (Bill) Bridges Wyrosdick, Jr. at age 18 and moved to California where he was stationed during his time in the Navy. She returned to Columbus to have her first child Peggy in 1949 they returned to San Diego and later had son Kayren Jim in 1952. After retiring from the Navy, Bill and family moved back to Georgia to begin his career in aviation at Lockheed in Marietta, GA. Ruth then had her third child, Jerry. She was a stay-at-home mom while the children were young but as they got older, she worked at several different jobs. For a time, she worked in a machine shop where she built bombs for the military then later at a dry cleaner and also as a secretary for an insurance company. She had several hobbies but her first love was her genealogy research where she quickly became the family's historian. She was extremely proud of her Irish, Scottish, and Native American heritage and as a fiery redhead who spoke her mind, it was always good to stay in her good graces. She was most proud of her only granddaughter, Randi, and loved spending time with family. She had artistic talent and could have been successful as an interior decorator. She loved the holidays and always went overboard at Christmas. She also had a passion for traveling and although she never learned to drive, would not think twice about boarding a train or bus with children in tow seeking new adventures. Her knowledge and stories of growing up in South Georgia along with her family's heritage will be greatly missed. Visitation will be held on Monday, July 17, at Southern Cremations and Funerals on Dallas Hwy. in Marietta from 2 PM until 5 PM. Additional viewing will be available on Tuesday, July 18. Service from 10 AM until 12 PM when the service will begin. There will be a graveside service at approximately 1 PM at Kennesaw Memorial Park on Dallas Hwy. where she will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband in the veteran's section.
