Ruth Pitt

Ruth Lanary Burchfield Pitt passed away peacefully on September 28, 2025, at the age of 98. She was born on November 4, 1926, in Atalla County, Mississippi to the late Leonard Lee Burchfield and Lillie Mae Moorhead Burchfield. She graduated from high school in Ethel, MS in 1944 and moved to Jackson, MS where she met and married William Herbert (Bill) Pitt. Her family lived in Jackson until they moved to Cobb County (Smyrna), GA in 1967, where she resided for over 58 years. Ruth is preceded in death by Bill, her husband of 43 years, and her five brothers and three sisters.She is survived by her daughters, Phyllis Pitt Higgins (Bob) of Smyrna, GA, Patricia Pitt of Lithia Springs, GA, and son Calvin Phillip Pitt (Stacey) of Lexington, KY. Ruth was blessed to have five grandchildren, Tim, Lori, Kelly, Matt & Kate, five great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Ruth worked in the dentist’s offices of Dr. Marshall in Smyrna and Dr. Glover in Marietta. Ruth was a long-time member of the Milford Baptist Church where she sang in the choir group Golden Tones. A celebration of life service will be held on October 3, 2025, at 10 am at the Cheatham Hill Memorial Park, which is now a part of Southern Cremation & Funerals on Dallas Hwy in Marietta, GA.
