He served in the U.S. Army from February 19, 1957, to February 19, 1959. He went on to earn his master's degree and CPA certification. After working for other companies, he ran his own accounting business for over 30 years. He passed his trade on to his son Darren and grandson Jared, who both worked alongside him. He also enjoyed woodworking and hand carved many beautiful heirlooms. He met his wife, Joan (Hampton), in Atlanta, GA when he started Georgia Tech. They married October 15, 1955, at Centralhatchee Baptist Church. They were married for 65 years and raised three sons together. To all of Shelby’s family, I want to extend my deepest sympathy. Shelby was a wonderful Christian man who always had a smile for everyone. He was very well spoken as a representative for the Gideons in sharing their message. I remember Shelby (and Joan) best from Davis Chapel. They were always very actively involved in so many different activities and jobs there. I know he will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends. Praying for peace for y’all during this difficult time. Earth’s loss is Heaven’s gain.
