Sherman Oliver Naftzger

March 13, 1933 ~ July 12, 2021

Sherman Oliver Naftzger, 88, passed away July 12, 2021 at home in Cartersville, GA. The love of his life, Willetta Lola Naftzger preceded him in death in 2017. They were married for 63 years. Sherman was born in Torrance, CA and was the son of George and Jane Naftzger. He grew up in South Bend, Indiana and went on to graduate from Indiana University with a Master’s in Business Administration. He served two years of active duty in the US Navy. He also had a successful professional career and ultimately retired from Frito-Lay in 1993. Sherman’s faith was an important part of his life. He was a member various churches throughout his life, 20 years was at Bent Tree Bible Church in Carrollton, Texas. The last 5 years he was a member at The Church of the Apostles in Atlanta. He was an avid reader and enjoyed playing cards such as bridge and cribbage with his friends and family. He was competitive and fierce and loved some good competition. He will be remembered for many things, but ultimately, he will be remembered as a loving and godly father. Outside of his great love for his wife, Sherman took incredible pride in his children and grandchildren. You could barely have a conversation with him without him bragging about one of his family’s accomplishments. He is survived by his 2 sisters, 6 children, 16 grandchildren, and 21 great grandchildren. Without a doubt, he is likely still bragging about them to Saint Peter. The memorial service, honoring his life, will be held on July 21st at 11:00 AM at The Church of the Apostles, Atlanta, GA. Memorial donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Stephen Ministries at The Church of the Apostles, Atlanta, GA.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Grandpa will be greatly missed. I take comfort in knowing he is now in paradise with Grandma and Wilson. Love,

  2. Growing up I spent many days at the Naftzger home (his daughter, Sheryl, bring my best friend). As a kid Mr. Naftzger seemed larger than life and intimidating, but knowing him as an adult I got to know his huge heart. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your family. I will remember you with happy memories and fondly. May you rest peacefully in Gods arms. Love, Mindy

  3. Sending you and your family love.

  4. “The branch is broken, Leaves have fallen to the earth, But the root lives on.” Wm. S. Shields Sr. Condolences.

  5. Sending my deepest condolences to the Naftzger family. Sherman was one of a kind.

  6. Michael and I enjoyed our friendship with Sherman and Willetta. They lived out their faith and extended their wisdom to the next generations. The picture below is from a neighborhood outreach in 2011 Sherman with Michael Attar. We have received loving hospitality from several Naftzger family members through the years. Much love to you all! from Michelle and Michael Attar

  7. Prayers for comfort & peace to the entire Naftzger family. Sherman & Willetta were wonderful…great parents, grandparents & great grandparents. It’s nice to think of Sherman & Willetta together again in heaven.
