Shirley Jo Ann Godlock, 66, of Lithonia, Georgia passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday May 28, 2023, surrounded by her loved ones. She will be dearly missed by her family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched.
Born on March 11, 1957 in Tryon, North Carolina, Shirley was the daughter of Lionell and Lillian Godlock (deceased) She was a loving and a devoted mother to her two children, Clifford Delon Thomas Jr and Brandan Lionell Thomas(his wife Jessica). Shirley was also a cherished grandmother to her four grandchildren Janazia Sharee Thomas, Aleigha Christiana Thomas, Iyana Chyrise Thomas and Giavonni Marie Thomas. In addition to her children and grandchildren she is survived by her three brothers William Godlock (his wife Lora) of Florida, George Godlock (his wife Victoria)of South Carolina and Emmanuel Godlock of Virginia. She had one sister Catherine Godlock of Georgia as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
Throughout her life, Shirley was known for welcoming everyone with open arms into her heart and home. She will always be remembered for her kindness, humor, generosity, encouraging advise She had an unwavering love for her family and friends, always putting their needs before her own.
Professionally, Shirley had a successful career with Dekalb County Division of Family and Children Services (DFCS) / Access and Resource Center (ARC). She was highly respected by her colleagues and was known for her compassion and care towards her clients who needed extra support. Shirley made a difference in the lives of those she worked with and those she cared for, leaving a lasting impact.
She attended Wilbur Cross High School in New Haven, Connecticut. After High School received her Associate Degree in Business. She also received her Medical Assistant Certificate/ Diploma from Omni Tech Institute in 2010.
In her free time, Shirley enjoyed cooking delicious meals for her loved ones and hosting gatherings. She had a talent for bringing people together and creating warm, welcoming environments.
Shirley leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and generosity. Her memory will forever be cherished by her loved ones, who will continue to honor her life by living with the same values she held dear. Though she may be physically gone, her spirit will live on in the hearts of all those who were blessed to have known her.
