In Loving Memory of Terry Jerome Oliver
Mr. Terry Jerome Oliver was born on September 23, 1963, in Millen, Georgia, to Bernard Oliver Sr. and Benny May Oliver. He entered eternal rest on January 30, 2026, at the age of 62. A devoted husband, family man, loyal friend, and proud United States Air Force veteran, Terry lived a life marked by quiet strength, service, integrity, and enduring love. He received his early education at Skyhaven Elementary School in Atlanta, Georgia, and later attended Walker High School, in Decatur, Georgia.
A proud member of the Class of 1981, Terry excelled in football, wrestling, and track and field. The discipline and determination he developed as a student-athlete remained evident throughout his life. Duly noted, Terry maintained lifelong friendships with classmates from his middle and high school years, relationships that spanned nearly six decades. His loyalty, steady presence, and genuine spirit made him beloved among family and friends alike. Answering the call to serve, Terry enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1982, where he honorably served as a Security Specialist and police officer. During his years of distinguished service, he dedicated himself to protecting personnel and critical Air Force assets.
He received an honorable discharge in 1988. His commendations include the Air Force Training Ribbon, Air Force Overseas Long Tour Ribbon, Air Force Good Conduct Medal, Air Force Longevity Service Award, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon, and the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award. His time in Cape Cod and his international travels to Germany, London, and South Korea were experiences he often spoke of and cherished. Following his military service, Terry continued his commitment to public safety by serving with the Atlanta Police Department.
Over the years, he also drove trucks throughout the United States, worked security at concerts where he enjoyed seeing well-known performers live, and most recently found fulfillment in his roles at AutoZone and Agile Cold Storage. He took pride in his work, in providing for his family, and in being dependable. Terry will be remembered for his humor and infectious laugh, a sound that continues to echo in the hearts of everyone who loved him. He loved driving, riding motorcycles, traveling to Florida, and spending time near or in the water. He enjoyed playing pool, watching football, listening to good old-school music, and sharing a good meal, especially soul food and seafood, often accompanied by a cold beer.
Terry is survived by his loving wife, Jacqueline Harris Oliver, who was his companion, confidante, and best friend. He did not desire to live his life without her and always looked forward to returning home to heal, help, and lead within their union. Their bond was rooted in loyalty, partnership, and enduring love.
He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Barbara L. Hale; stepdaughter, Crystal Anderson (Prince); his stepson, Chris Hale; a host of step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his brothers, Todd Oliver (Tanisha) and George Oliver (Carmaleta, “Toya”); his sister, Kimbelia Oliver; his aunts, Sarah Mae Davis, Annie P. Jackson, Zelda Oliver, Geraldine P. As we reflect on Terry's life and legacy, we take comfort in knowing that he served his country with honor and loved his family with devotion. Though he may be absent in body, his life, marked by strength, resilience, and perseverance, will remain with us always. To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. – 2 Corinthians 5:8
