Virginia Lucille Nix

December 28, 1931 ~ November 3, 2021

Virginia “Lucille” Nix, 89, of Mableton, GA, passed away peacefully in her home on Wednesday, November 3, 2021. Virginia was born in Chattanooga, TN, on December 28, 1931 to the late Mr. William Lance Branham and Mrs. Nell McElroy Branham. Lucille and her husband, John Berlin Nix were married on July 28, 1951 and spent 37 years raising their family together. Lucille was a true Southern Belle in every sense of the word. She was known throughout the neighborhood as a second mother. She was a wiz in the kitchen. Her fried okra was legendary, she also loved making cupcakes and cookies as well as canning her own vegetables. Lucille was a great baker and decorated cakes. She will always be known for her sour cream coconut and apple pound cakes. Lucille also did wedding cakes and floral arrangements for weddings. In her younger years, while living in Alaska, she was a shoe model for a local department store. She and her husband, John, were also presidents of the P.T.A. during their children's schooling and were at every sporting or school event the kids had. Lucille walked very closely with her Heavenly Father and was a member at Mableton First Baptist Church. She was active in Sunday School and enjoyed hosting her Sunday School Christmas Parties at her home. Lucille retired as a department manager at Sears. She spent hours reading, gardening, and playing cards which she loved. Most of all, Lucille loved her family and being Nana to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be truly missed by all those who knew and loved her dearly. Lucille is preceded in death by her parents and husband, who passed on July 26, 1988 as well as brother, William "Billy" Lance Branham, Jr. and niece, Susan Branham. Those surviving to cherish Lucille’s memory are her daughter Deborah Henry (David) and granddaughter Rachael Henry; daughter Cynthia Pritchard (David), grandson Zach Pritchard (Kelsey), great-grandson, Grayson Pritchard, great grandson , Joey (Bubba) Cravens, granddaughter, Emily (Preston), and great-grandsons Brayden and Lyric Munger, great granddaughter. • Thanks for letting me know. Growing up next door to the Nix’s makes this especially painful. Please hug your Mom today and cherish every moment as we don’t know what tomorrow will bring. Lucille was small in stature but she was a strong lady who always did her upmost best to raise and provide for her 5 children. She was always pleasant with a smile and always offering you something from her kitchen. She made the best cake and pies. And cookies. And I still smell her fried chicken. She had small plaques on the walls that had cute proverbs or cliches that remained embedded into my hippocampus. One was ” The more hurried I am the more behind I become.” Another was “behind every successful man is a woman helping him along” I have a wooden plaque that hangs in my kitchen today from her that I’ve always loved. (It’s not to be offensive in any way!) It’s a grocery list with pegs and a black Manny saying “I Hasta Have”. RIP Lucille and may Deborah, Cindy, Britt, Ben and Jaime be comforted by her wonderful memories.

  9. I’ll never forget that summer and canning season !!

  10. Miss Lucille was such a sweet lady. She called my mother-in-law ( Dolores Hartline) every night and they would chat. If Miss Lucille couldn’t reach her , she would call me to make sure everything was ok. Even though I have only met her twice, she would say I love you when hanging up the phone. She will be truly missed Michelle Hartline

  11. Deborah & Cynthia , I want you to know I’m praying for you today. My heart breaks that y’all are walking this road…it’s hard to loose your mom. Praying God’s peace and strength will envelope you the same way your mother’s arms and love enfolded you all these years. Your mom’s love and care were, and still are, a beautiful testimony of how great our Heavenly Father cares for you. How wonderful that we don’t grieve the way the world grieves…we grieve with the Hope and knowledge that through Jesus’s sacrifice we will see our loved ones again. Today she is whole, perfect body and so happy. One day we will be the same. May the God of all peace grant you the strength of His steadfast love and mercy. 🌷 Carmen Roberts

  12. Dear Family Henry, receive my condolences for your lost, I pray God for Ms. Virginia and all the family for your resignation hoping you find in your souls enough strength to endure your pain.

  13. Our Mom was a wonderful and loving Mother, Nana, Great Nana, and Great Great Nana. All of her family she cherished and loved dearly!!! There was no ‘n-law or step’ associated with anyones name in the family! They were all her children! Mom was my best friend and we could talk about anything and everything! She walked closely with Jesus! When she could not attend her church she would watch Dr. David Jeremiah and Charles Stanley every Sunday morning. She always kept a positive attitude and never complained about anything! Mom, I miss you so much! In loving memory, Cynthia (Cyndi)
