Mr. Walter James Brown, 86, of Powder Springs, GA went to his Heavenly Home on Wednesday, October 25, 2023. Walter was born in Canton, MS to the late Mr. Isadore and Mattie Brown on July 11, 1937. He was one of twelve children.
Walter lived for 19 years in Canton, MS before relocating to St. Louis, MO where he worked for Southern Iron and Supply Company for 20 years. Walter then worked for Colonial Bakery until his retirement. In 1968, he met Mae Belle Binion and they started their family.
Walter was a true man of God. He was a member of St. Andrews Missionary Baptist Church for many years under Rev. L. Andrew Brown where he traveled with the male chorus, singing and praising the Lord. He later joined New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church under Pastor J.B. Garris, where he served the Lord until his relocation to Atlanta, GA. In Atlanta, he became a member of Latter Rain Christian Church under Pastor Dale Osburn.
Walter will be remembered by all those who knew and loved him as a hard working family man. He was an amazing cook, loved classic cars, people, talking on the phone to loved ones and his church. When Walter wasn’t busy with family or church, he enjoyed spending quiet time on his patio. The family is at peace knowing that he is finally reunited with his Lord and Savior and the love of his life, Mae Belle.
Walter is preceded in death by his wife, Mae Belle, his parents, sons; Leonardo and Darryl, brothers; Isadore Brown, Jr., and Hosea Crump, and sisters; Berniece Brown and Ella Smith.He is survived by his daughter, Michelle Binion (Tony Dowdle) and son, James Binion both of Powder Springs, GA, siblings; Leon (Mattie) Brown of St. Louis, MO, A.J. Brown of Dayton, OH, Roosevelt (Minnie) Brown of California, Georgianna (James) Smith, Carol Brown of Canton, MS, Hillary Brown of Detroit, MI, and Gwendolyn Brown of California, 9 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Walter also leaves behind a host of relatives, cousins and friends to cherish his memory.
A Celebration of Walter’s life will be conducted at Latter Rain Christian Church, 3311 McKown Rd., Douglasville, GA, 30134 on Saturday, November 4, 2023 at two o'clock in the afternoon with the Rev. Eddie E. Morris officiating. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be: James D. Binion, Christopher D. Bishop, Nicholas A. Bishop, Leon Brown, Tony C. Dowdle, and James Winston III. The family will receive friends following the service.
