Walter Vincent Styczynski

March 23, 1944 ~ March 28, 2022

Walter Vincent Styczynski, age 78, passed away on March 28, 2022, in Marietta, GA. Walter is survived by his wife Diane (Calcagno) of Kennesaw, with whom he had recently celebrated 50 years of marriage; his daughter, Tracey Strom, of Kennesaw and her husband Robert; his son, Mark Styczynski, of Atlanta and his wife Megan Cole; his five grandchildren Joseph Strom, Philip Strom, Nicolas Strom, Regina Styczynski, and Aileen Styczynski; his sister, Joyce Siniscalchi, of Naples, FL, and her husband Robert; his brother, Roger Styczynski, of Monroe, NJ, and his wife Marianne; and his sister-in-law, Billie Calcagno, of Joplin, MO. Walter was born on March 23, 1944, in Brooklyn, NY, to Walter Stanley and Loretta (Carnevale) Styczynski, who preceded him in death. He attended Brooklyn Technical High School, received a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from the City College of New York and a Master of Science degree in Education from the College of Staten Island. He taught in the New York City school system for 35 years, including an extended run at his high school alma mater as a loved, respected, and well-regarded chemistry teacher. He also served as an adjunct professor at Monmouth University and the College of Staten Island. He loved the Brooklyn Dodgers for all of his life, but once they abandoned him, he grew to love the New York Mets. He enjoyed playing softball, attending New York Jets games, watching Villanova basketball and Notre Dame football, and lately came to enjoy painting and assembling model kits. A funeral is scheduled for Walter at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marietta, GA, at 10:00 AM on Monday, April 4, officiated by Monsignor Walsh; an opportunity for visitation is available starting at 9:00 AM. Entombment will follow at the Cheatham Hill Memorial Park in Marietta, GA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Walter’s name to the International Association for the Study of Pain, https://www.iasp-pain.org/donate/. He never let his back pain keep him from doting on his grandchildren, but would want to help future generations have better ways to manage their pain than what he had available.
