William "Bill" Cornthwaite

June 16, 1950 ~ July 10, 2021

William “Bill” B. Cornthwaite, 71, of Rockmart GA, passed away on Saturday (July 10, 2021) at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta, GA. He was born on June 16, 1950 in Decatur, IL, the son of Richard and Juanita Cornthwaite. Richard preceded him in death. He married Mary M. Donovan on November 19, 1970 in Decatur, IL. He is survived by his wife, Mary of Rockmart, GA, son Tim Cornthwaite currently stationed in Kuwait (wife Mary), son Rick Cornthwaite of Mt Zion, IL (wife Jessica), daughter Charlie Cornthwaite of Decatur, IL, Mother Juanita Cornthwaite of Lehigh Acres, FL, sister Susan Pelissier of Decatur, IL, brother Dick Cornthwaite (wife Bev) of Taylorsville, KY, sister Lori Acton and brother-in law Gary Acton of Lehigh Acres, FL., along with 8 grandsons, 1 granddaughter, 1 great grandson, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Bill proudly served his beloved country in the United States Marine Corp. He retired in 2016 from his job as an Engineer for Manatee County in Bradenton, FL. He was able to enjoy his retirement along with Mary in Rockmart, GA for the last five years. He loved spending time with family and friends, collecting and shooting firearms, reading, learning new things, and building, repairing and tinkering with a variety of projects. Visitation will be held at 2:00pm to 3:30pm on July 24, 2021 at Southern Cremations and Funerals, 1861 Dallas Highway, Marietta, GA 30064. A service will be conducted immediately after (3:30 pm) in the same location. Following the service will be a gathering to celebrate Bill’s life at the home of Rick and Jeanette Smith, 904 Rose Creek Trail, Woodstock, GA 30189. He will be honorably interred in his final resting place on Thursday July 29, 2021, at 9:00am at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA. There will be a short service conducted there. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be provided to the American Cancer Society in Bill’s name.

  1. It was an honor to know such a great man who loved his Mary like every woman should be loved. I can’t imagine what life will be like without him. We know he’s with Jesus now. We will all carry our memories of Bill in our hearts.

  2. Ken and i will always remember our best friend Bill and his wife Mary as we have been friends for so many years. We always had so many good times together. Lots of laughs and fun together. our youngest son and their son Tim played together many times. Bill was a wonderful friend. husband and dad and loved his family SO MUCH. Bill was always there to talk too and he always took the time to help others.Ken and I are heart broken at his passing but we thank the good Lord for giving us such a wonderful friend Bill and Mary and their family to love. RIP dearest friend and know you,ll always remain in our heart and minds as you make your journey with Jesus in Heaven. Our thoughts and prayers of comfort for Mary and all the family.
