Fairburn Southern Cremations & Funerals
Mr. William J (Billy) Briggs, age 93, of College Park, Georgia passed away February 08, 2022. Billy was born to the late Mr. Loren G. Briggs and Mrs. Garland J. Briggs in East Point, Georgia on July 24, 1928. He was a man of strong faith, a devoted husband, and an exceptional father. He loved being "Pawpaw" to all his grandkids and great grandkids. He was married to his bride Mary Louise (Lyons) for 62 years. Billy loved to build and create; he could build or fix anything. During his 40+ years at Cawthon-Hollums Properties, he built 400+ commercial buildings and 4 different churches. After he retired, he continued with his love of wood working for 15 additional years with his sawmill, solar kiln and tools making custom furniture and trim.
Billy was preceded in death by his wife, his son James, and his daughter Karla along with his above-mentioned parents and all of his brothers and sisters.
He leaves behind his daughter and son-in-law, Phillip and Deborah Warren, his daughter and son-in-law Dr. Richard and Patricia Gregory and his son and daughter-in-law Timothy and Ginger Briggs. Billy leaves behind 25 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren.
Billy had a dream that he shared with us the day before he passed about feeding 1000 kids. To honor his wishes, we have set up a web link to provide a donation to the Children’s Hunger Fund in lieu of flowers. Donations should be made “In Memory of WJ Briggs” at this web link https://childrenshungerfund.org/give/ or checks can be mailed to:
