Lessie Etolia Jackson McMillian Roscoe 77, of Marietta, GA passed January 25, 2020.
Lessie was born to Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert and Ernestine Jackson, November 20, 1942 in Marietta, Georgia. She graduated early from Lemon Street High School in 1959 and received a Bachelor’s Degree from Spelman College in 1963, where she attended on full scholarship. Lessie began her teaching career with Atlanta Public Schools, and she retired from APS with 33 years of service. She married Henry McMillian in 1966 and they lived together in Atlanta, Ga. Of their union, two beautiful children were born. She later married Robert Roscoe in 1988, and they were together until his passing in 2005.
She leaves as her legacy two children: Gilbert H. McMillian and Samadia Hamidullah Madyun (Cassandra Delores McMillian) and three grandchildren: Ammaarah Rehaana, Nizam Faheem, and Imad Shareef Hamidullah. She also leaves to cherish her memory two sisters: Sandra Jackson Canty and Jennifer Jackson Harper (Orester J.) Lessie’s children remember her as a sweet, dedicated and loving mother. She also leaves beloved nieces and nephews, including Lisa Canty, Jerry Harper, Tanisha Harper, Gregory Reliford, Adrienne Echols, Robert Echols and dearest cousins Joanne Jackson Martin and Carla Henson Bowden.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Gilbert Jackson and Ernestine Henson Jackson, and her husband, Robert Roscoe.
A funeral is scheduled for Thursday, January 30, 2020 at the Columbarium Chapel at Cheatham Hill Memorial Park. A viewing will be held at 10:00 a.m., followed by the ceremony at 11:00. A reception will follow at the Columbarium.
