Elaine Louise Townsend, 69, of Brookhaven, Atlanta passed away on February 19th, 2020 in Johns Creek, Georgia after a 15-month battle with cancer. She was born in Atlanta, Georgia to Alvin and Mary Townsend on January 16th, 1951. She graduated from Cross Keys High School in 1969, married, raised two boys, and later continued her education at Agnes Scott College and the Art Institute of Atlanta. She was a talented artist across multiple mediums, had a unique style, a gentle spirit, an appreciation for the vintage, and could turn a stranger into a friend in an instant.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Alvin Damascus Townsend and Mary Wheat Townsend; her maternal grandparents, Samuel John Wheat and Lila Thrasher Wheat; her paternal grandparents, Lona Thrower Townsend and John Townsend.
Elaine is survived by her children Benjamin Paul Silverberg and wife Marcia Lyn Silverberg, and Jeffrey Adam Silverberg and wife Melissa Erin Silverberg; brother Alvin Randall Townsend Sr. and wife Janice Tindall Townsend, and sister Elisa Lilla McClendon and husband Ronald Webb McClendon; grandchildren Anna Mae Silverberg, Audrey Carolyn Silverberg, and Jeffrey Robert Silverberg; nephews Alvin Townsend Jr. and wife Andrea Walter Townsend, Brett Townsend, and John Townsend; nieces Karen Pavao and husband Nelson Pavao, and Kristi Lawson and husband Richard Lawson; former husband Jeffrey Paul Silverberg.
The family of Elaine wishes to extend our sincere thanks to all who cared for her during her illness: Dr. Leslie Conrad and Dr. Shabnam Shah and their teams at Emory Healthcare, our “Visiting Angel” Kellie Kicklighter and her husband Garret Powichroski, the many wonderful people of Weinstein Hospice and the Cohen Home, and all of the friends and family that contributed in big ways and small.
Elaine will be cremated, and her ashes will be interned during a service at 12:00pm on February 28th at Honey Creek Woodlands in Conyers, Georgia. Immediately following the interment service, the family will host a gathering at the same location.
