Ora Lee Young, age 87, of Mableton, GA., formerly of Forrest City, AR., passed away Friday, February 28, 2020 at Ross Memorial Health Care Center.
Funeral services will be held 12:00pm, Saturday, March 7, 2020 at Linked UP Church, 4331 Brownsville Road, Powder Springs, GA., with Pastor Joel Gregory officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
Mrs. Young, daughter of the late Dave and Leola Forrest, was born October 17, 1932 in Palestine, AR. She retired from Sanyo Manufacturing as a line worker over 20 years. Mrs. Young was a former member of Salem Missionary Baptist Church in Forrest City, AR and served as a member of the Usher Board at Salem Ministry. Mrs. Young was an attendee of Linked UP Church in Powder Springs, GA.
She was a seamstress and loved to sew, she was a beautician, and enjoyed gardening. Mrs. Young was a farmer and drove the tractor on her farm in Arkansas. She was an entrepreneur, owning her own BBQ business and restaurateur. Mrs. Young was a carpenter and a jack of all trades. She was the family caregiver, an excellent cook, and her specialty were her homemade biscuits.
Mrs. Young was the cornerstone of the family, and you didn’t have to be a relative for her to take care of you. She never met a stranger and had a heart for her community. A few of her famous quotes she lived by included, “You need to help somebody daily,” “Love your fellow man,” and, “Always help somebody else. She wanted to make sure you took care of other people and “to think outside of yourself”. She lived a selfless life, even to the hurt of herself, and gave to people in need.
Other than her parents, Mrs. Young is preceded in death by her husband Carnell Young; brothers Willie Forrest, Thurman Forrest, Timothy Forrest, and Cleopheus Forrest; sister Annie Mae Willins.
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters, Dianne Walker (Johnny) of Mableton, GA., and Angella Young of Hiram, GA; grandchildren Cheresse “Pho” Walker, Colby J. Walker, “C.J.,” Terry Watson, Jr., “T.J.” Andrew Terrell Watson, Tiffany Ashley Watson, and Tammara Lavalle Watson; great-grandchildren, Landon John Walker and Kersei Olivia Watson; sister, Barbara Jean Young (Ulysses); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
