Marietta Southern Cremations & Funerals
James R. Moody, Jr. was born on January 22, 1962 to James R. and Elizabeth D. Moody in Brooklyn, New York. He was the youngest of 5 children and the only boy: a prince amongst 4 princesses. James was preceded in death by his mother and father: James R. Sr. and Elizabeth D., his siblings: Sharon Chaplin[George "Billy" Chaplin], Deborah Long (children: Kyle, Kim and Stacy [– d.]) and, Sylvia [Dennis Johnson – d.] (children: Devona and Marc {“The Prince”}) and survived by Cynthia Dow [Isaac Dow – d.] (children: Craig [Renee], Cameron [Takeyce], and Kelly [Alex]); all whom he loved dearly.
On October 27, 1984, James married Sandy Curtis, the love of his life! They were happily married for 35 years. James and Sandy have 4 children - two daughters, Tiffany LaVonne, Tamara Camille, and two sons, James R. III (Jannette), and Vahn R.C. (Iris). Together they have 4 grandsons: William Jr., (Man) James IV (LJ), Jacéon, and Jaxson.
Together, James and Sandy enjoyed studying, reading, and sharing Bible truths from God’s Word the Holy Bible with their children, grandsons, and anyone they met in various forms of the ministry. James and Sandy shared a special joy when they regular pioneered for almost two (2) years and was able to attend Pioneer Service School in 2013 with their youngest son, Vahn. They also enjoyed travelling, listening to music, dancing, watching old classics, playing various card games (especially Spades and Bid Whist) and board games (especially Scrabble), and talking to family, old and new friends. James’ faithful, loyal, mild-tempered, service dog and companion: Lambrusco (Brusc) misses him very much.
James was a family man, through and through. He cared deeply for his immediate and extended family members. He truly loved his aunts, uncle, and in-laws (May, Fannie, Thelma, Bernice and Joe, Catherine, Cathy, Toni, and Marcelo [Tashia]). He was fondly called "Grandpa Jim Jim" and "Uncle Jimmy" by many. James was extremely sensitive to the plight of others. He would literally give you the ‘shirt off his back’ if you were in need. He had a family first attitude and considered many close friends his "cousins". His sense of humor, creativity, and thoughtful nature left a lasting impression on all that he met.
James developed a strong and devoted relationship with his God Jehovah and was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses on March 31, 1984. James truly believed in Jehovah God's promises of "a new heaven and a new earth" found at Revelation 21:1. Verse 4 of Revelation 21 states there will come a time when "...death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore". James enjoyed serving congregations he was a part of (in New York, Virginia, and Georgia) and took serious the commission at Matthew 28:19, 20 to "Go, therefore, and make disciples", engaging regularly in the preaching and teaching work. When his circumstances allowed, he served as a Ministerial Servant and Regular Pioneer. Despite health challenges, he did not let that dampen his evangelizing spirit, having a full share in the telephone and letter writing forms of ministry.
James was a man of many secular talents, holding positions as a Manhattan and Bronx Surface Transit Authority (MABSTOA/MTA, Metropolitan Transportation Authority) bus driver for many years, salesman, and as the proprietor of a tax and small business accounting firm. However, James’
passion was in music. He was a DJ for most of his teenage and adult life. James played music in several parks and venues throughout the five boroughs and state of New York, Virginia and Georgia. He thoroughly enjoyed playing music for his spiritual brothers and sisters at various congregation’s events: weddings, school graduations, gatherings and picnics. In 2009, he retired from secular work due to health issues.
James will truly be missed by many and we all look forward to the day when we will see him again in Paradise on earth, according to Psalms 37:11.
