Marietta Southern Cremations & Funerals
Rita Barfield Redmon, 60, of Marietta passed away Friday, July 10, after a long struggle with cancer. She was surrounded by her loved ones up until her passing.
Rita was born on August 16, 1959 in Brooklyn, New York and lived in several places all over the country before eventually settling down in Marietta, GA. A graduate of Kennesaw State University, she earned her degree in early childhood education. She had a passion for teaching and spent 12 years working full-time at Russell Elementary School in Cobb County. Her students adored her as much as she adored them. She was a member of East Cobb Church of Christ and her faith in the Lord was a driving force in her life. She was a caring and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Her family and friends were blessed to have her love and affection.
She is survived by her husband, Donald Redmon, of Marietta; her son, Christopher Barfield, and his wife, Melissa Barfield, of Marietta; her daughter, Lauren Barfield, of Atlanta; her stepson, Scott Redmon, and his wife, Summer Redmon, of Buford; her stepson, Andrew Redmon, and his wife, Rachel Redmon, of Alpharetta; her stepson, Richard Redmon, of Duluth; her sister-in-law, Carol O’Toole, and her husband, Martin O’Toole, of Marietta; her four brothers, Thomas, Michael, David, and James; and her three granddaughters, Rylee, Harper, and Rosalyn, who affectionately referred to her as “Grita.” She is preceded in death by her first husband, Michael Barfield; her father, William Thomas; her mother, Catherine Thomas; her father-in-law, Hollis Barfield; and her mother-in-law, Ada Barfield.
A graveside service for family and close friends is scheduled for July 15, at Cheatham Hill Memorial Park. A memorial service will take place on a later date and will be announced by the family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society in memory of Rita Barfield Redmon.
