Gerald Peter Fittin (known as Jerry), 87 years old, of Marietta passed away on Sunday, September 6, 2020.
Jerry was born in Orange, NJ to Daniel and Matilda (McCrea) Fittin on May 24, 1933. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1952, and later received a BS degree in Education from Panzer College and an MS degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University in NJ. He was an Elementary school teacher and coached soccer and baseball in the Sussex County, NJ school district. Jerry married Eileen Clare Dolan of Montclair, NJ on August 25, 1956. They were married for 63 years. They lived in Pinehurst, North Carolina before moving in 2014 to Atherton Place in Marietta, GA.
Jerry is survived by his three children. Mary Hartman and her husband Jim Hartman; Nancy Matalenas and her husband Jim Matalenas; and, his son, Michael Fittin. Jerry has three grandchildren, Laura Matalenas, Jimmy Matalenas and Ryan Hartman. The youngest child of 13 children, Jerry is survived by one sister, Mary Jean Wingerter and one brother, Tom Fittin, both in NJ.
Visitation will be held between 2:00 to 4:30 on Friday, September 18 at Southern Cremations and Funerals. The Monsignor John Walsh, Pastor of Saint Joseph Catholic Church will officiate the service at 3:00 pm. Burial will follow at Southern Cremations and Funerals – Cheatham Hill.
