Yanick Rose Colette

June 9, 1951 ~ October 9, 2020

Yanick Rose Colette (“Yane”) passed into heaven on Friday, October 9, 2020, after a life-long battle with sickle cell anemia. She passed on at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. A native of Cap-Haitien, Haiti, a coastal city in the northern end of the island also known as Au Cap or Le Cap, Yanick lived a remarkable life, filled with love and happiness, despite the suffering caused by her sickle cell anemia. Yane gave birth to her first son, Joseph Colette, on December 7, 1980, and her second son, Randolph Blaise, on April 25, 1985. She was completely devoted to her two sons, raising them as a single parent in New York City, with the help of her parents. While living with her parents in Queens, Yane continued to work at Bankers Trust Company until 1993, when complications arising from her sickle cell required her to retire early. In 1994, she relocated with her two sons to Atlanta, Georgia, for the promise of warmer weather and better educational opportunities for her children. After moving to Atlanta, Yane started a small catering business, Douceurs de la Table, LLC. As a small business owner, she baked cakes, patties, and other Haitian inspired foods and desserts for her fiercely loyal clientele, consisting primarily of members of the Haitian diaspora living in the metro-Atlanta area. When she wasn’t baking for her business or family, Yane spent the majority of her time doting on her young grandchildren, Jaida, Justice and Cruz. Playing games with them, cooking for them (occasionally teaching them how to cook), and teaching them their native French language, were the highlights of her life. A lifelong member of the Catholic Church, Yane was a devoted Christian. Her faith and love for our Creator and His son, Jesus Christ knew no limits. Yane is survived by her sons, Joseph Colette and Randolph Blaise; her grandchildren, Jaida Blaise, Justice Blaise, and Cruz Colette; her sisters, Yola Jean-Pierre, Myrtha Colette, and Johanne Colette-Gedin; and a host of nephews and a niece. Yane’s children appreciate the many calls, messages, and other expressions of love and affection during these difficult times. The Colette Family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Sickle Cell Foundation of Georgia in the name of Yanick Rose Colette, using the following link: https://sicklecellga.org/feature/donate/
