Charles Frances Swain, Jr.

Twenty-Eight days after the passing of his beloved wife and best friend of 61 years, Charles F. Swain Jr. (Charlie) of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, died at the age of 87. He passed away peacefully at the home of his son in Atlanta, Georgia on December 24, 2020 surrounded by his family. Charlie was born on April 23, 1933 to the late Charles F. Swain Sr. and Helen Cecilia McGuire in New Haven, Connecticut. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Ann Windhorst Swain of Myrtle Beach, SC, his daughter Lori Swain Blackman Denihan of Danbury, CT, his son Kevin C. Swain Sr. of Pittsburgh, PA, his sister Ellen McGee of New Haven, CT, and his brother Terry Swain of New Haven, CT. Survivors include his loving son, John D. Swain and his wife Erica King Swain of Hickory, NC, his brother Jim Swain of Fort Myers, FL, and his sister-in-law Jane Bruno of East Brunswick, NJ. He is also survived by his grandchildren Alison Blackman and Elizabeth Blackman of Boston, MA (Glenn Blackman), Michael Denihan of Shelton, CT (Marty Denihan), Kevin C Swain Jr., Brian Swain, Laura Swain, and Lindsey Swain of Pittsburgh, PA (Carolyn Swain), Connor Swain and Eric Swain of Marietta, GA (Meredith Swain Buckley), Andrew King of Hickory, NC, Lauren King of Sidney, MT, and one great-granddaughter, Everleigh Jane King of Sidney, MT. He also leaves behind many cousins, nieces, nephews and their children and many wonderful friends. Charlie graduated from St. Peters School in New Haven, CT and upon graduation he was drafted into the United States Army during the Korean War. After serving his country proudly, he was honorably discharged and then he attended and graduated from The University of Bridgeport. Charlie and Barbara were married on April 25, 1959. In 1970, they moved to Hyannis, MA and were members of Our Lady of Victory Parish. There, Charlie taught C.C.D, was a Eucharistic Minister, Lector, and was involved with Cursillo, Echo and Birthright of Cape Cod. Charlie and Barbara moved back to Connecticut in 2002 to be closer to family. There, they became members of St. John of the Cross Church where he was an usher. While living in Myrtle Beach, he was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church. Charlie was a loving and devoted husband, father, Poppy, brother, uncle, and friend. He never met a stranger and was loved and admired by many. Due to the current Covid Pandemic, a Mass will be held at Our Lady of Victory Parish, Centerville, MA next Spring for both Charlie and Barbara. Memorial donations may be in his name to the Our Lady of Victory Parish, Centerville, MA. or to The Swain Legacy Foundation, LLC, Post Office Box 2389, Myrtle Beach, SC 29578, a Foundation established by his son John to honor the life, love, and legacy that his father, mother, brother, and sister have left behind for him to carry and memorialize in their honor.
