Winona Melton

Winona Henrietta Love Melton, 88, passed away peacefully at her home in Dallas, Ga., on Friday, January 8, 2021. She leaves behind her son Charles M. Vickers; her son Jack W. Melton, Jr. and his wife Peggy M. Melton; her daughter, Caroline Melton Ferguson and her husband Frank L. Ferguson, Jr; her son Robert T. Melton; and her granddaughters Sarah and Emily Ferguson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack William Melton, Sr. and her brother William Jefferson Love. Winona was born in Iron City, Georgia, on Valentine's Day, February 14, 1932, to Henry Green Berry Love and Waver Trawick Love. She attended Berry College in Rome, Ga., later graduating from Valdosta State College with a B.S. degree in Education. Winona was an elementary school teacher for over 30 years and passionately enjoyed most of her career at Hollydale Elementary in Cobb County, retiring in 1983.. She retired from Hollydale Elementary in Cobb County in 1983. Winona loved shopping for treasures at antique shops, out of the way small-town shops, collecting antiques, adventures with her family, horticulture, American history, and the outdoors. Together, they were members of the Depression Glass Club, The Nature Conservancy, The Azalea Society, and other plant and historical organizations. She had a green thumb, and she and her husband started a plant nursery where their passion was growing Azaleas, Rhododendrons, and perennials. At Winona's request, there will not be a funeral service in her memory.
