James Weldon Adcock, 87, of Sandy Springs, passed away on January 28, 2021. He was born in Canyon, Texas on February 19, 1933 to Robert Alvin and Josie Mae Adcock. He is survived by Lynn, his wife of 53 years, sons Alan (Diane) of Woodstock and Dave (Alexis) of Atlanta, and three grandsons, Travis, Emerson, and Eliot Adcock as well as extended family. James was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Foy, sister, Jo, and nephew, Gary.
Before moving to Georgia, James lived in several Texas towns including Canyon, Pep, Happy, Toler, Orange, and Fort Worth. He graduated from Lutcher Stark High School in Orange, and received a BBA in Accounting from Texas Wesleyan College in Fort Worth. He served as a Sergeant in the Army in Fort Hood, Texas during the Korean War.
James spent 45 years working as an Internal Auditor for HUD and General Services Administration, and retired in 1995. He also owned Deen Road Grocery in Fort Worth, Texas for a few years.
James and Lynn moved to Roswell, Georgia in 1973 where James was very involved in the community. He served as Scoutmaster of Troop 431 for five years. He was very proud that both Alan and Dave attained the rank of Eagle Scout and he loved hearing about his grandsons’ scout journeys as well. James was a great leader and excellent example of all Scouting principles.
He was a member of Roswell United Methodist Church for 48 years and served on the Board of Stewards and the counting committee. The Christians Under Construction Sunday School Class was very special to him.
James’s hobbies were reading and travel; he and Lynn visited five continents and many states in their travels.
James had many stories to tell and his presence warmed every room he was in. He was known for his kind and gentle nature, and he lived in a way that made people’s lives better for knowing him.
