Marietta Southern Cremations & Funerals
On Sunday, January 31, 2021, Christopher Daniel (Monica) Van Pelt, loving husband and father of two fur babies, passed away at the age of 46.
Christopher was born on March 25, 1974 in Baytown, Texas to Donald & Gloria Van Pelt. He worked and lived in Atlanta, Georgia as an entertainer for over 20 years. On July 18, 2017, he married Jonathan Dupree, and they happily shared their lives together until his untimely passing.
Christopher is survived by his husband Jonathan Van Pelt, father Donald Van Pelt and wife Lenora, mother Gloria Van Pelt, sister Carol Amerson and husband Paul, and nieces, Brittany and husband Branden, Natalie & Alyssa.
Christopher had a passion for entertaining and bringing laughter and joy to peoples’ lives, making his career as a drag performer a fulfilling one. Christopher lit up the stage the instant he appeared, and audiences were captivated with every performance. Christopher was not just an entertainer – he was an inspiration to so many, especially in the LGBTQ+ community, as he reminded others to live life fearlessly and fabulously. Christopher was also an avid collector of all things Wizard of Oz and Star Wars, and he loved his fur babies immensely. He was known for his quick wit, his infectious confidence, and his loving heart – and for that, he will never be forgotten.

My husband and I met at Pride 12 years ago. After we got married we started helping out with our local pride festival every year and our three children have grown up doing things with the LGBT+ community. My daughter Liberty has sung the National Anthem to open our festival for the last 3 years, and is never shy to get up and dance alongside the drag queen or king. At our 20th anniversary Pride we had a Van Pelt family reunions. My daughter was up dancing alongside Monica, and instead of trying to get the little kid off of the stage and out of the spotlight Monica made her a part of her performance. Afterwards she sat down and called my little girl over and asked her name and said she had made here day with how sweet she was. Liberty told her that she had sung the National Anthem two years in a row. Monica told her that when they call you back that means you’re a star. It was something small but it meant the world to my little girl, and the fact that Monica took time out of her performance just to talk to her made her feel so special. Our whole family is saddened at Monica’s passing.
Dear Don and Lenora, Uncle Pete and Aunt Becky send you our deepest sympathies.
Your kindness and friendship gave hope to many. Your determination gave everyone an example. Your memory lives on in our hearts forever. RIP XOXO
